Riot Has done some really cool stuff with making us videos and redoing the splash arts, its no secret that the LOL Art team is talented, Why not have a Comic? This Comic could Explain the Lore? (I guess) on a deeper level then just writing a paragraph and then never touching it again. Imagine the Love story's that could be created or rivalries intensified by written Dialogue/ Art Quality. This could be all be put in an archive on the LOL website or you could even purchase a Copy from the LOL website for a reasonable price.

They should just follow Dawngate example, they made their lore extremely engaging with their comic (also I think those guys might be looking to be hired).

Three things to consider:

  1. Riot doesn't have an official merchandise store at this time. They've been "working" on it for years, now, but they've not had any progress as far as we're aware.

  2. What style of "comic" are we talking about? American style, Japanese Manga, a mixture of both? Does Riot hire famous comic artists to do the work or do they hire well known, League friendly artists to do it (Skyen, Nips, Lilypichu)? What about a deadline for release? Some artists don't like firm deadlines.

  3. Riot normally does this sort of thing for free. Think back to May, when they released the Pentakill Album. An album with some of the most respected artists working in metal music today, and they give it out for free when fans would have gladly paid for it.

My guess would be the lore team, who would need to be involved, are toiling on reworking existing lore after The Great Retcon of 2014 (hue hue), and IMO should finish that before moving on to other projects.

EDIT: but I'd read the crap out of it if they ever do something like this

Some champions around Graves' release were previewed via short, 4 panel or so comic pages. I know Graves and Naut were in particular. Might be worth looking at those if you want to see sort of an example. Of course, they aren't a full length comic or anything, but it's about the closest we have.

With the purchasing option, the issue I see with this is who the comic stars and how it's done. An example could be a side story comic for Urgot that explains his early life and how he came to be. However, how many people would want to read a comic just about Urgot. With so many champions to write about you'll be leaving players who have favorite champions waiting in anticipation for the comic of their champion. If comics don't sell because the story is about an unpopular champion, what reason would Riot have to continue producing the stories?

They can do a DC/Marvel where multiple artists work on different champions stories, but the thing I hate to think about in that route is the inconsistent art of the different artist. You'll definitely have some artists better than others and it would suck if an amazing artist that drew one comic didn't draw the comic of my favorite champion and instead I got stuck with some amateurish artist.
