Items that needs a splash art update and what riot should do with them

Yep, there are many items in the game whose splash arts are ugly and bad, in short, outdated. Sorry for my awful yet honest words specially if I have offended you rito but as a LOL lover and gamer that loves your game very much, I must do this for you too see that me,we, the community loves an updated game like new splashes:)

So before I start, I just want to categorize the types of amount of work needed for a specific Item Icon.

Category A - Splashes that are bad and needs a complete overhaul. Iconic Items can be recreated while some might be re imagine to a new one. Category B - Splashes whose got a new look but the potential of it is not fully develop and need tweakings. Category C - The background just needs a recolor because its bland or dated. The weapon art is acceptable though. Category D - The opposite of category C. Meaning, the weapon is bad but the background is ok. Category E - Needs a relaunch but reserve art(items that got cancelled whose splash art is nice and can be reuse) can be a replacement.

Lets start with the Starting Items:

Yep, the starting items splashes are awful, right? but lets see what we can do here. For me, I will put these 3 into category A but wait I change mind! Category E instead because look at these replacements. Old yet the art is nice and as riot said in past articles, we won't see a new game of Black Market Brawlers yet and with that, wouldn't be the art of those items would be put into waste? So why not reuse it? The only thing that is not consistent in the theme is the ring but I can bare with that other than the live one.

All of them pass but 3 didn't pass in my taste. its these 3.

item 2033 - Corrupting Posion - Category C, why didn't they continue the green glow in the background? while the top has it. item 2031 - Refillable Posion - Category C, background is bland! and No glow? really? small indie company in deed. item 2013 - Oracle's Extract - has a potential as a category A but I'll put this into Category C as well. Background is bland.

Trinkets:

Its an item created by a mist so what if just replace the blue fire with powder eyy and done. item 3645 - Seer Stone - https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/40/Greater_Orb_item.png/revision/latest?cb=20170409215631 Category E, Greater Orb has a nice story telling than the used icon item 3649 - SSW - Category A, like WTF is this?

Distributed:

item 2058 item 2059 item 2060 - Category C, the travel items are like Oracle's Extract so they need the same overhaul. item 2062 - Pilfered Potion of Rouge - Category A no doubt but the bottle shape is nice though. item 2052 - Poro Snax -Category A but I can say that they should just get the art of Total Biscuit of Everlasting https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/1/10/Total_Biscuit_of_Everlasting_Will_item.png/revision/latest?cb=20171222000432 Will and replace the BG.

item 1052 - Amplifying Tome - Category A item 1038 - B.F Sword - Category A, I bet riot would just recreate this and preserve the looks for nostalgia because I like it too item 1001 - Boots of Speed - Category A, mostly all boots needs an overhaul. item 1051 - Brawler's Glove - Category A item 1029 - Cloth Armor - Category A item 1042 - Dagger - Category A item 1004 - Faerie charm - I hate this icon IDK why but why not recreate this old item https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/9/98/Eleisa%27s_Miracle_item.png/revision/latest?cb=20130319090310 because it fits the name item 1041 - Hunter's Machete - Category A item 1036 - Long Sword - Category A item 1058 - Needlessly Large Rod - Category A. All their armor nullifies magic so why not recreate it with an armor like that. item 1037 - Pixaxe - category A. item 1006 - Rejuvenation Bead - Category A. Phew! Thats alot. I hope that riot notice this thread cause I've put alot of effort to it. Maybe the Item Splash Update should be riots next project for Pre Season 9 with the new ranking system. Thanks for reading and I'll entertain questions too.

Overall i feel like there are too many swords, blades and knives.

For example i don't really get why almost all attack speed and crit items are swords while the vast majority of AS users are ranged. It could be a good opportunity to bring more ranged weapons.

They started to do it for defensive items, bringing more helmets instead of the classic chest plate armor everywhere

Actually, the icons for Warrior and Runeglaive were made by me - not Riot. That is to say "they" didn't make a perfectly good new Ruby icon and then give it to a new item. The Wikia needed icons for the enchantments and so I recoloured the Sated Devourer buff icon.

Also, I think the existing Ruby icon actually looks better than the one I made for Warrior.

Why are 60% of the items in category A? Do you really think Riot would remake that many icons? Maybe over the course of 3 years they might, but geez. Chill on the icon hate. It's just 1 megapixel; it's not gonna look great no matter how much work you put into it. The most important thing is that we can tell what item it is at a glance, so changing that many icons from what we're used to would do a lot more harm than good.

While I agree that most items need and update, I think that few of these are kind of nitpicking. item 3090 item 3024 item 1028 item 2015 looks totally fine to me. Also I think the reason why the BMB items assets aren't re-used is because if they ever release the gamemode again, they might have to make new ones again.

Those suggested splashes are nice and its not hard for riot to implement those considering that they own them already. the Scimitar one looks so good too. Maybe they should ship those suggested items first with tweaks and later those others that need a complete overhaul/design.

I hope this pre season all items will look nice and new. Please riot!

The need to create new splash art for each item icon is ridiculous. Some also like the fact that its very old. Old doesnt mean bad. Maybe you think it might but im pretty sure that this is because you never actually knew times when games were crappy and the fps was shit (2000-2005). Maybe you are born in this new generation were everything needs to be done again and better.

i think they're fine where they're at. I care about art a lot, but splash art for items would be the last place I'd want for updates. If anything, they should just update the item splash art to fit to the overall graphics of the game itself. As for now, they aren't outdated compared to any in-game graphics imho. When and if the graphics for this game ever get updated, then, maybe, I'd consider wanting them to update the splash art for the items. It's just not that big of a deal. Actually, I'd prefer them to be the same for recognition until it was absolutely necessary to update them so they don't look comparatively old in a visually updated game.

I wish all the old icons get fixed and replaced by new ones. But I would also wish all the items to have some story to them, give them lore backgrounds relevant to the main league of legends universe. That stuff is always nice.
