Prestige Borders

I say this as someone who values art. I say this as someone who has had a Riot employee remove two summoner icons from my account because the linked borders cover my splash arts. I like the splash arts. Let's be honest, League owes much of its success (or at least growth) to the art team. The problem with the skin splashes is that they cover a good portion of that gorgeous artwork when most of it has to be cut out anyway to fit in the loading border. They're not actual borders, they're filters. And I hate them. I've mentioned having summoner icons removed from my account because it removes said borders as well, unfortunate, but I'm okay with that. I can live with that, but, I managed to get the Prestige Irelia.

I get most of my skins through crafting nowadays. I bought a few in the past, but for the most part, I don't like spending that much. Been playin' on and off since season 3 and over the years I've put in a few hundred into the game. I mean, it's been several years. I still don't like the thought of it sometimes despite that. But here I see an Irelia skin, someone I used to main before the rework. And I feel compelled to nab it I guess in some weird twisted sort of means to honor her memory or something idk. I don't really use her anymore, the reworked lore and kit killed her for me, but whatever. I had some serious RP sittin' on my account and I got a few bucks from a side job and I ain't got time to grind the damn PROJECT points, so for peace of mind, I just buy the points. Weirdly enough, I'm oddly at peace with it when in any other circumstance I'd flip my lid over the mention of a skin being more than $10.

TLDR

So for any of you who've looked into the likelihood of nabbing one the limited Prestige skins like this Irelia one, you realize what an absolute scam it is. It is. Let's not mince words about that. Let's not give Riot a pass on that. That's not what I'm taking issue with here, what I'm taking issue with, is the fact that this skin is basically $100+ depending on how much you play and how much RP you already have on your account.

So why is my $100+ splash art covered by a stupid filter I can't get removed?

Already spoke to a Riot rep in customer service. They said it was one of the skin "features" and that it wasn't tied to anything that could be removed. I get I have some venom in my words. Still holding back. (This is only 1% of my true power), but I say this earnestly, for something that costs this much, it's not just a skin anymore, it's like an expensive appliance or tool or vehicle. After spending a certain dollar amount, you'd better be getting what you pay for, and some bending should be done if the purchase isn't a 100% happy one. We don't have the option to ditch the border whereas with any other skin type, we do. As the most costly skin type, this should have that option. Please Riot, fix that. That is an actual problem. It is not a feature, it is a problem. 15-20% of the art I paid for is covered. And anyone else who forks up the money for this skin, or puts in the absurd number of hours needed to earn this skin, is stuck with the same issue. We have options for "lesser" skins. We should have options for the limited Prestige ones too.

The borders, IMO, aren't meant to enhance the art in any way. They're more a status symbol. Borders nowadays are usually only available during a skin's initial launch for extra money, or during events as a craftable prize. And Prestige Edition skins are one. big. status. symbol. They're flashy expensive chromas marketed as rare and exclusive skins. They're like the chaser variants of League skins. The border is kind of redundant, yes, but so is the entire concept.

That being said, most of the time borders aren't much more obstructive to the splash than the fact it's only a wedge of the original art itself. If you really want to appreciate the art go find a high res upload of the extended splash online and stare at it for a while. Going as far as to make a Riot employee remove content for your account for the sake of, 'valuing art' in a loading screen you won't stare at for more than 30s is quite frankly ludicrous. Why buy/craft the icons in the first place if you're just going to have them removed? Most of that content has to be paid for or specifically earned in the first place.

I get it. I'm an artist. I love many of Riot's splash arts. I have two of their splash's as my laptop background and lock screen. But your complaint here is kind of pedantic and over the top.

the event prestige skins are 15 dollars if you play normally.
