What does Bard's lore have to do with the League of Legends?

Bard/Background

Bard's lore talks about how he is a celestial being who protects the world, you know, as he sees fit. His extended lore even has him intervening with the Ionians and Noxians, which I suppose at least relates him to the world of the LoL. However, why is he actually in the League? The old champion's lores were centered around why they were fighting in the "League of Legends".

What the hell is Jax? Who knows. But his lore describes him as a mighty warrior who got the fast-track treatment into the league of legends. He beat everyone up so badly that he issued a self-imposed penalty on himself: He could only use a brass lamppost to fight. ~ So, Okay: I get why Jax is fighting in the League of Legends. Why is Bard fighting in the League of Legends?

Is this the way things are headed with new champions? Braum's lore is a story told from a Grandmother to a Grandchild. It describes who Braum is and why he is a legend, but not why he is fighting on Summoners Rift. I suppose that some of the older champions don't specifically say why they're fighting, although they allude to it somewhat. Bard's story is awfully vague in this regard.

Are we still "Summoners" choosing "Champions" to fight for us on the Summoner's Rift?

Sorry if this seems a dismissive answer, but we've known since the retcon was first announced that Summoners only exist now as a term Riot uses to refer to their playerbase and that Summoners Rift is no longer something that actually exists within the world of Runeterra. Bard isn't "in the League" because there is no League or Institute of War. They don't exist and never have within the current canon.

Beyond featuring characters and themes from the same setting, there is very little to connect the lore and actual game behind League of Legends any more.

They decided the Lore for the game "League of Legends" shouldn't have a League of Legends in it after all.
