Picturing Pantheon's Eventual VGU Lore - Wise (Slightly Long)
Since I've started playing League from Season 2, I've always have had a soft spot for Pantheon, him being my first champion and all. I had picked him just because of my love of Greek Mythology and thought nothing could be more badass than crashing down onto your enemies as a Spartan. However, recently I haven't played him as much because of his binary gameplay getting stale after a while, but I'm not writing this post to focus on his gameplay because there are already enough threads discussing this.
On the contrary, I'd rather focus on the lore aspect of Pantheon. I mean the man himself is the Artisan of War. I mean look how badass he is depicted to be (taken from lore) :
"a warrior mantled in starlight and bearing a gleaming, golden shield and spear of legend....The Aspect of the Warrior had infused him, and he was now both mortal and immortal, the incarnation of war made flesh. He was now an avatar of battle. He had become the Pantheon...eyes blazing with celestial light, and the enemy knew death had come for them. The battle was over quickly; none could stand against Pantheon."
I'd die to see this Pantheon in our game, because right now we have a generic Spartan who just lobs spears at people's faces whenever he gets the chance. I'd love to see Riot give importance to this aspect of Pantheon; he is, as already said, "the incarnation of war made flesh", he would be a honed warrior who'd quickly cut down his enemies with precision. Quote: "The lone warrior moved like liquid, every movement smooth, efficient and deadly." We easily see him cutting down a large group of warriors with little to no difficulty at all. However, from my understanding of the champion, he doesn't revel in the chaos and death of war such as
,
,
etc. but instead in the actual "Art of War" if I can describe it that way.
Regarding Pantheon's godlike skill in battle, I feel like this would be essential to his character. He should be revered by warriors and thus, an element of fear should be created too. However, it shouldn't be like people fearing Noxus for their brutality, such as being cut down by Darius, or being grinded to bits by Urgot, but it should be out of respect. As Pantheon himself says: "They are privileged to die at my feet!
This should also tie in with his personality. Generally, the 'God of War' is depicted to be cocky due to him thinking oh himself as an invulnerable being (and he has every right to be) but it would be nice to see Pantheon maintaining his disciplined mindset on the Art of War. This can be shown through his quotes:
"Honor compels me!" "They disgrace the art of war." "Immediately."
This quotes also show that he isn't a man of many words. He's there to fight and not to flaunt his skill cough
cough. We can see this again during his interactions with a bunch of warriors:
**"I am of the Mountain. You shall go no further." **
"Your tongue is forked, serpent", said the lone warrior. "You seek the blood of the Seer. Turn aside, or be slain."
Again, we see his mentality, straight to the point; direct, ready for confrontation like a soldier should always be. That doesn't mean that he has lost his soft spot for baking though :D
At the end of the day, I just would love to see Pantheon be modernised to fulfill this criteria of being THE incarnate of honourable warfare. Truthfully, I'm also excited to see how champions like
and
can be modernised the way I described Panth, so that the player can truly feel like a powerful warrior.
Sorry for the long post! Got carried away! But I wish people would want Pantheon to be reworked not only because his kit may be frustrating to play against, but also because of the HUGE potential he has! And with the way VGU's have been being handled, I'm very confident that Riot will do him (along with other champions when they get to them) justice!
