Why will Aurelion Sol stick around after the Targon event?
So one of the big plot points of the Mount Targon event is inevitably going to be Aurelion Sol's struggle for his freedom. Lore-wise he is in Runeterra both because he's compelled to and also because he sees his chance at breaking their hold over him here. He doesn't care about this world; he doesn't care about the beings here or their agendas; he just wants to get back out into the universe and cater to his beloved stars.
But if he gains his freedom, what incentive would he have to stay on Runeterra (and be a choose-able champion to play as)?
Obviously we're not going to get an answer from Riot that would spoil the outcome of the event. But that doesn't stop us from brainstorming some ways this can go down. I can see his storyline wrapping up in several possible scenarios:
-
He stays a slave.
-
Unlikely as it'd probably force a changing of his spoken lines to sound more defeated, angry, resentful, etc. at his failure to escape. Or at least it should in order to make this scenario hold weight.
-
Also unlikely cause it's kinda sad for that to happen. Think of the mental anguish Riot would inflict upon their players as this thought persists in the back of their minds every time they play Aurelion Sol.
-
He gains his freedom and leaves; Aurelion Sol is no longer a champion in LoL.
-
Yeeeeaaah, no. Probably not happening.
-
He gains his freedom and leaves according to the lore, but he sticks around in game (because why would they remove him?), thus breaking story integration.
-
I trust Riot's creative team won't do this.
-
He gains his freedom but stays due to the power of friendship (or something similar).
-
If this happens, I'm hoping it will be sufficiently well thought out, believable, and won't be incredibly cheesy.
-
Can be combined with the one below.
-
He gains his freedom but stays to fight the Void.
-
His bio hints at a rivalry against some sort of Void hivemind, and also that he doesn't like them messing with his plane of existence.
-
Could happen along with the friendship one above.
-
Regardless of whether the Void affects Aurelion Sol's story or not, I'm hoping this leads to both a cosmic-level Void champion and a Void event in the near future. Preferably earlier than Soon (TM).
-
Something else happens.
-
Hey, I gotta include something in here to ensure at least one of my guesses is correct.
What are your thoughts on what will happen to Aurelion Sol?
