I mean sure, VGUs are fine, but what about all the smaller scope visual upgrades you guys used to do?

None of these champions need dramatic gameplay changes, so why not just give them (and others) the visual touch ups that they need?

"If we could spend time doing just a VU for X champion, wouldn't that time be better spent giving equally outdated but more unhealthy Y champion a visual update and a gameplay update?"
Riot's Champion Update team is involved with both art and gameplay, so they're gonna focus their time and attention on what they can make the most of with the time and resources they've got available to them.

At this point we have enough designers on the Champion Update team that we can do VGU's and roughly the same pace as we were doing VU's before. It makes more sense to solve 2 problems at once rather then 1.
The player response for a VGU is also miles ahead of the player response for VU's, which is why we decided to foucs on the VGU's for now.

I still think Jax could benefit from a GP level update one day. Cho is on the list to get a full VGU one day. I could also see a world in where Kayle gets a GP level VGU and Morgana gets a VU to go with it since it would be probably impossible to update one without the other.
Some of the champions that are ugly now but have good kits might have kits that feel more dated in a couple years, so they might eventually make it onto the VGU list (Udyr for example.)
So I for sure wouldn't say ugly champs are screwed.

No no no. While she does need better audio, her model is pretty atrocious as it is. She's clunky, the shading goes all wonky when you're playing at different graphic levels and move certain distances from her, and her rigging is just antiquated. She needs a full blown VU. Her kit is perfect as it is. In fact, I wouldn't mind if that big new champ rework team took on a set of champs with good kits to just VU them. Like Kayle, Morgana both at once would put the whole team to good use in my eyes.
A Liberal1 votesIdk Kayle needs some work. With how specific new champions are in their niche she's kind of all over the place. Also her passive doesn't really fit with riots attempts to remove invisible power.
I think she needs a new Q and E, as well as her passive. The ranged/melee and sheild is too iconic to take away.
But yeah no please don't touch Morgana's kit. Like maybe rework her passive so its like ahris where it heals instead of spellvamp to get rid of spellvamp but please don't change her she's a perfect little angel.

She is an iconic character of lol with some serious kit issues ( like basically having a spell going from active to passive when she reaches X cdr ) and wether or not you will change that or other parts of her kit there will be salt.
All that salt should go unwasted.

That disappointed me so much to read. I'm not angry, just sad. As someone who spends a disproportionate amount of time playing Udyr to other champions, to learn that I'm not gonna be able to enjoy any of his skins (due to outdated model) outside of his Ultimate Skin until, looking at the amount of champions already on the priority list, at least 4+ years from now is so disappointing to hear.

Also they started the work on VU already several months,maybe even a year ago(when he got his gameplay rework),it was just iceboxed because the Gameplay update was finished far earlier than the VU,so they actually had a small head start for his VU.

BastionKross5 votesIf you go to the Visual Update room at Riot HQ and say the word "Udyr" every single living being in that room (including the ficus by the window) will scream and hurl themselves under the nearest piece of furniture until the menace is gone.
Updating Udyr and his multiple in-battle forms and multiple skins is enough work for two or three champions. If they ever do redo him, they'd probably end up doing it like Sona where they have one base model that surrounds itself with different particles as he changes stances.

Why not keep the old model for the Ultimate skins, and if they have that chosen then load the old model? Otherwise use the new model like it would anyways. Ultimate skins don't really need any visual updates.

Everything has to be done. Including the ultimate or they have to be reduced in price, which is going to piss people off.
RiotReav33 votesYeah it would depend on how much the base model changes. With Udyr we would probably want to do some gameplay changes as well. Also, a lot of the new champions have much better ability cast anims. If we updated all those for his base/non ultimate skins it would make the ultimate skin look really awkward in comparison.

I have literally no issue with anything on my comp except league, and I use my comp to make music so yea. All these fancy ability graphics, critters running around, and general graphical expectations make it where even on lowest setting I can't get above 25 FPS when I was getting no less than 60 FPS ever. I have to avoid teamfights cause once people start throwing spells I go to like 3 FPS. It gets old.
