What if Taric`s dark secret past was like this ? ....

Captured by Zaunians Taric got infused by liquid Crystals/Gems as an Zaunian experiment because of his affinity to Gems that he inherited from his Father a zaunian scientist, who was forced to work for zaun after they threatened to kill his family , because they found out that Taric and his family had a affinity to gems and crystals and secret/forgotten knowledge they forced his father to experiment on him and he infused Taric with liquid gems made possible by the techmaturgy-technology of zaun so he can utilize the full potential of gem/crystal magic. And thats why taric doesnt speak of his dark secret past because it was tormenting to get painful techmaturgic infusions. Maybe also the reason because he is so kind that he doesnt want anyone else to suffer the same.

If that would be the case riot that would make him a gentle badass that hopefully explains his affection for gems and the reason why Taric can grow gems to harden his armor/enhance his durability.
