So i guess we can give up on the rest of the Shurima Lore.

Because we're clearly never going to get it. It's been nearly 6 months since we were told about the "tech issues" preventing the release of the full champion bio's. It doesn't take 6 months to take a database issue. Perhaps "tech issue" means something a little more complicated, but I know a red (Jaredan?) posted a while back about how the shurima bios were in varying stages of completion and not ready to ship yet. Well, it's been about 5.5 months now. This gives narrative almost a month per champion to write a couple paragraphs of lore. It's not exactly like they have to start from scratch either. We're not asking for a novel here. It doesn't need to be Pulitzer level. Just... something. For reference, back in 2011-12 riot used to pump out new champions every two weeks and they all came with lore longer than "What is a Rammus anyway? Ok."

I remember when riot announced this cop-out retcon, the narrative reds told us to be "Excited for the possibilities!" Right now, it's a real possibility that in another 6 months i STILL won't know why you took Skarner, a good, sympathetic character, and turned him into "generic monster bad guy gaurding a cave for no reason whatsoever." Or anything about the war in the Freljord, why Cho'gath doesn't eat runeterra without the IoW to stop him, or why you retconned the League of Legends out of League of Legends. (I still can't get over how absurd that last part sounds.)

So screw it, I give up.

Shuriman lore? I give up on lore.

Jax currently is non-canon in every way other than the fact that he is a mercenary.

Another big question that they never answered: Did Noxus invade Ionia in the new lore and if so how was it resolved without League intervention?

Narrative's whole thing for the past several years has been ''Trust us guys.''

No. Just no.

The amount of incompetence is staggering and if Riot gave even a single fuck about their lore they would be ASHAMED of its state. Story doesn't matter in this game anymore, sadly.

Just make up your own stories, because Narrative sure as hell ain't gonna do its job.

I gave up a long time ago, my friend. Everything story-related about this game is dead in the water until further notice.

Apparently, along with the issues you mentioned (tech issues & writing the lore),the lore team is going through some type of structural changes.

But whatever the reasons, the lore is a mess & the lore team is....hell,the lore in general feels pretty much non-existence from the game & Riot.Like if there was some dev blog one day saying that there is no more lore,no one would be upset by it.A vast number of players don't even know or care about the lore & a number of lore fans are tired of the unstable lore anyway.

Totally agree! For some reason, Riot isn't giving their lore the attention that they used to.

Their lore retcon almost seems like a way to standardize lore in such a way that they only need to worry about new champion bios and retcons.

I think it's almost been a year and they still haven't gotten their shit together when it comes to lore. The retcon still isn't complete and some mysterious tech issue is still preventing them from delivering on anything of substantial quality.

Freljord EVERYTHING! -> Now you can wait some years for any progession, if at all. Shurima EVERYTHING! -> Repeat course. -Insert next Region- EVERYTHING! So on and so forth.

That's what I expect of the writers.

I remember seeing some of fan-made lords which were very well thought out and written, probably better than anything Riot could come up with. And I'm sure they would not complain if you use it. On the country, they'd be pretty happy.

Anyway Riot, at this point most of the community is convinced that you either have 1.) no lore team or 2.) they simply don't do their jobs. Warwick's lore update was when? 2.5 years ago? And Singed is still not updated. Since the retcon not a single champion with story tied in with the Institute had their story rewritten.

The lore team workroom has been refitted into an executive money bath a long time ago. Even though they have "rebooted" the lore, the "team" is actually just 3 hobos leeching wifi from a starbucks, hence the delay, they often get found and must relocate to another unsuspecting starbucks,

i gave up on lore when they decided to remove summoners. if we ever do get any decent lore expanding on shurima, or anything already in the game. it'll be years.

The part about Skarner is so on point. I really don't understand why you'd take Skarner, a monster that's not a generic "grrr I kill and eat everything that moves" and turn him into that.

There's more lore to Shurima? I figured the same thing applied here as with the Freljord event. A bunch of build-up to nothing.

Reposting from Impetual's thread:

I wholeheartedly disagree from the proposal of "just care about the end results, not the internal issues" because when I see results that put me in despair it's obvious that I will begin to care about what went wrong, and I will push to call them out and make an intervention to correct those flawed things.

I, as a believer and theist, actually pray IRL for Ryze Ryze or Tryndamere Tryndamere showing up apologizing for the mess the lore of the game came to be, peaking in removing the League of Legends from the League of Legends, and revert the Great Retcon.

Even if the actual Narrative Team show up and bump all their work tomorrow; for what I saw since the Tommy Gnox post announcing the Retcon I couldn't manage to like anything of it, and that's why I ask: #What if we don't like the new content?

Literally, just pretend that them removing summoners from the lore never happened.

L7xLoTek2/26/2015, 11:46:40 AM2 votes

I'm guessing the lore team is playing chicken with the balance team to see which one does something meaningful to Skarner first :p

It doesn't take 6 months to take a database issue.

This is Riot we're talking about.

I read a Azir and Xerath story I found in the forums and it was pretty good actually.
