Something that the four of them definitely have in common is that they all hurt the ones they loved at some point. (Reddit)

As well as a personal opinion, it doesn't have to do with vengeance as that would be kind of reductive, we already have a vengeance themed champion (and an adc at that!, "Deadeye" is rumored to be an adc champion), Kalista.

Another personal opinion, from something I just noticed: What if it is the champions' deepest wishes or fears?

Zed is essentially "dead", he has been like that since the Forbidden Techniques took over him. And so in his artwork he has branches sprouting out of him, which symbolizes life.

  1. His biggest wish is to feel alive again, break free from the shadows and thus losing the power or 2. His biggest fear is being alive again, which would mean losing his power.

Garen is the definite "Demacian Standard" icon. And so in his gif, his eye is covered by a mirror (?) that is shattering, which imo symbolizes falsity.

  1. His biggest wish is to break free from the oppressive feeling and lifestyle that come from being this "Demacian Standard", which he truly isn't or 2. His biggest fear is that he won't be the ideal icon anymore, and won't enjoy the recognition as well as respect and w/e that comes from being false.

Sona is pretty self explanatory, she is a mute. In her artwork, her "voice" is either abandoning or coming back to her. I think it is coming back.

  1. Her biggest wish is to get her voice back and end her monotony, maybe she is tired of the Etwhal or 2. Her biggest fear is getting her voice back as that would probably result in some conflict with her Etwhal, and she would lose her powers.

Vi is the most mysterious by far but I think I've figured out what those flame-like smokes are. Imo, her gloves exploded or suffered a malfunction, hence the smoke, and she seems relieved/conflicted.

  1. Her biggest wish is to break free of her current lifestyle, which is full of violence, with her being the main contributor or 2. Her biggest fear is of breaking free of violence, which is who Vi fundamentally is, she lives for fighting.

Maybe it is a new champion that plays on the concept of "be careful what you wish for", on the concept of desire crushed by fear, inner conflict?

Just my 2 cents.

INFO:

  • Moobeat has found this "events/20151228_jhin/Zed.gif" in some Garena assets for these files. I don't know what Deadeye is, but Jhin is an event.
  • The shadows that surround Zed in his teaser aren't his own shadows. They are present in Sona's new artwork as well, which means that whoever is doing whatever is happening to Zed, Garen, Vi and Sona, is probably the one causing them.

Shards of green energy, white...doves? I think, pink flowing energy and petals.

I don't get it right now. These are all so distinct from one another. Perhaps it's meant to represent something about each of them individually, as if the given effect represents something about them as characters. Pulling from that I guess Garen's eye being shattered like that could represent the shattering of ideals and his own personality, which is more Demacia than himself, for Sona it's the idea of fleeting innocence with sinister undertones representing the Etwahl, Vi's lost in a weird glow perhaps referencing her lost memories, and Zed's petals represent all the blood shed by him?

I have no clue, just throwing stuff out there. Right now it all feels highly variable and to inconclusive to draw much from other than their's an underlying connection to this "Deadeye" and "Jhin" stuff. Can't say much more beyond that.

I wonder if the similarity between the four of them is that they all haven't had parents, or well, birth parents I mean? KInda? Sorta? Something to that Degree?

  • Sona was left at an orphanage, but later adopted
  • Garen was seemingly drafted into the military, if we use Lux as an example.
  • Vi was an orphan on the streets of Zaun
  • Zed, we have no notion of his parents, but it can be inferred that Zed's parents are not at the Temple

Another theory might be a theme of a lost childhood?

  • Zed was trained at an early age, about discipline and all that boring stuff
  • Garen, like before, was drafted into the military, but was Jarvans friend if I recall correctly
  • Vi, like before, was an orphan on the street, having to fend for herself to stay alive
  • Sona, she was mute, and was very talented at the Ehwal which led to tours and we all know that childhood glamour stuff (Cough cough justien Cough)

My last theory, and probably flimsiest, is maybe a theme of betrayal? Not like Kallista betrayal but to a group/ideal than to a person.

  • Zed, betrayal to the ideal of balance, the clan of where Shen came from, and his master
  • Vi, betrayal of Ekko, Jinx, and her old gang (Betrayal as in leave for piltover and become a Piltie)
  • Sona (ABSOLUTELY no idea. Her old lore doesn't give any answers or anything. This is why this theory if flimsy)
  • Garen betrayal for Demacia by falling in Love with a Noxian (Katarina)

There has to be some sort of connection between them. Two of them are blue tinted, the other Red tinted? Two males, two females? WHERE IS THE RAINBOW CONNECTION!?!?!

This random set of Characters makes me want to lean more towards a skin line than a new champion... I dunno...

Of course, creative theory crafting could lead to about anything. Heck, I heard new champion, I have heard Taric, lol.

What about Shen, the "EYE" of Twilight? Bet his eye isn't dead. The random group wouldn't matter as much as he judges without bias.

Garen: Too much Damacia, you have lost yourself. Return to balance.

Sona: (not 100% sure here, maybe, and its a stretch, she is bitter about her childhood) Find your voice, and return to balance.

VI: Your free spirit lacks any level of concern for others. Your selfishness cannot be hidden. Return to balance.

Zed: F-U dude. Magic shuriken to the face! umm... balance... yeah...

EDIT As a general note, I don't actually think any of what I wrote is true, just writing stuff for the heck of it. :P

Maybe this represent "Regrets" Sona regretting being mute. Garen regrets his own lies of public view, Vi regrets her lost memories, and Zed regrets killing his master? Idk, food for thought with 2 cent spent.

In response to your wishes/fears section: I just realized something great.

Zed Secrets kept are weapons wasted. Zed The truth lies in darkness. Zed Brave the shadows, find the truth.

Much like how Garen is his perfect image and Sona is her lack of voice, Zed's entire theme is (forbidden) knowledge. He was shot through the head.

I'm thinking it has something to do with their childhoods and how, as adults, they've had trouble with being considered betrayers to their people (Other than Sona, I don't know what she's done.)

  • Garen was forced into the military at a young age, which as one could assume, wouldn't make you the happiest child alive. I can imagine going through military training as a child isn't fun and is very painful.

  • Sona was a mute and very talented at the Etwahl, this lead to being a famous musician, which can lead to very troubling experiences as a child. She was also left at an orphanage as a child and was adopted.

  • Vi was an orphan and grew up on the streets

  • Zed was an orphan. We know that he was trained at a young age in arts of discipline.

  • Garen could be said to have "betrayed" his Demacian ideals and family by falling in love with a Noxian woman, especially the daughter of General Du Couteau (Assuming that's still canon)

  • Sona could just be having trouble dealing with her young fame

  • Vi is despised by Ekko and Jinx as she presumably grew up with them and is now hunting Jinx.

  • Zed turned to dark techniques during his training as he found balance is weakness. He betrayed Shen, Akali, and Kennen. Shen most specifically.

The colors on them could represent where they're from and what they've been through.

  • Garen is from Demacia, and the green crystals could be his Demacian ideals cracking due to his love for Katarina
  • The white doves on Sonas throat could be a representation of the pain living as a mute is
  • Vi's fire could be the burning sensation of hatred she has for Jinx.
  • Petals can be used to represent death, as petals falling from a flower can mean that the flower is dying. The petals could mean that Zed is dying because of the darkness he let into himself.

This is stretching things to their very limits with this. Some of the things I'm saying may not even be completely factual, I don't really know. This is just what I can think of off the top of my head.

My biggest guess is that "Deadeye" is a name for someone that comes to haunt you for the bad that you've done or the regrets that you have.

From a lore perspective that is one awkward group of people to include in a hit list. This Deadeye guy just seems like a dick that goes around shooting fools for no reason.

I think we have elemental symbolism here. Why is Vi burning? Why does Garen have gems cracking his skin? Sona with air makes sense (music).

And petals for Zed.

To be honest, i think the new champion, if it is a new champion is something that uses shadows/dark magic. I think, something that causes nightmares. A bit like nocturne, or maybe actually let's them see their wishes (Sona regaining her voice) (Garen living the life he wants, his demacia cover falling off)

So far in all of the portraits they seem to be asleep And so far in the artworks, their surroundings are dark, shadowy. which is what makes me believe it has something to do with dreams and shit

What we have seen so far:

Zed's Eye has been pierced, the pupil turned traitor whose gaze has fallen to the darkness. Sona's Voice has been pierced, the young woman who has both been silenced and given a voice by her beloved music. Garen's Heart has been pierced, the Paragon of Justice whose heart is torn between the light of his people and a forbidden love. Vi's Hands have been pierced, the Enforcer of Law who herself scoffs at being bound by laws and rules. In this regard she shares much in common with a certain criminal she relentlessly hunts... "Rules are meant to be broken."

Each of these champions share not only internal conflict, but either a hidden past or hidden desire that will probably be revealed (by force if needed) by Deadeye him/her/itself.

Zed's just closed his eyes. Hmm, Garen has gems, Sona has doves, Vi is burning up and Zed has cherry blossoms coming out of him. What the hell is going to happen to them?

Garen Garen: Green shards, symbolizing reconcilation (with Katarina?) Zed Zed: Petals, symbolizing redemption from his sins. Vi Vi: Sparks or fire, symbolizing fury or anger maybe? Jinx did make her very mad. Sona Sona: Now this one messes it up. White doves should symbolize purity of the souls and peace, which sona already has. Maybe it symbolizes freedom, because she is not free to speak?
