Garen hates that his sister is a mage, BUT doesn't he too use magic with his SWORD? I'M CONFUSED.

Can someone answer me this. ( for those who are familiar with champ's lore) If Garen is distant from his sister Lux because he doesn't want to face the fact she's a mage, ( because apparently since he was a kid, he hates mages) Wouldn't he be a hypocrite because he too uses magic with his sword? I mean we see in game and in cinematic scenes that he summons the sword to fall from the sky ( when he was fighting Kat.) Evidently, that is an inhumane power or ability he has, as no regular sword fighting includes that. So, doesn't Garen also use magic, if so why does he hate lux being a mage? It doesn't make sense.

Seriously, why do so many people still think that Garen summons a sword from the sky? The visuals of his ultimate were reworked years ago,it is more like a sword shaped beam of light.

And to answer your question: His ult is either noncanon or he himself is unaware of his ability to use magic in the lore.

I feel like people ignore the fact that anti-magic is sometimes magic in the negative. Not only that, but let's be honest. They may hate magic, but is it really "stupid" for them to have any form of armor that can ward off magic? That, and their entire kingdom was developed using Petricite which is anti-magic. They don't need magic to cure and utilize petricite.

Garen can’t summon a giant sword in lore.

on a sidenote, if garens ult would become canon then how powerful is he, that he can summon such a mighty spell while being completely covered in magic negating material? thats actually kindof crazy.

if garen and lux were both near galio, and garen was out of armor, galio would probably act as if he was on cocaine.

So uh yeah i think that settles it now. Garen is indeed a low developed mage as Sylas could absorb his power (or that of his sword, it seems rather unclear.)

Isn’t anti-magic armor technically magic on its own too? I mean it had to have something done to it to be unaffected by magic, right?

Garen doesn't despise magic, Demacia does. Both Lux and Garen grew up with the constant reminder that magic is a bad thing. Lux's vision of magic changed when she started to wield it. Garen is probably able to do magic aswell but he's totally unaware about/ignoring it.

As Swain says: "Ignorant of the very magic you carry into battle. How Demacian"

And let's be honest, if the petricite negates magic, there's something magic about it. And don't tell me that Garen isn't using magic when he uses his Q, W and ult.

Demacians ideology is f*cked up.

Maybe they'll be a little less ham-fisted in the next retcon of Demacia lore. Something like that they prefer magic that strengthens and protects (or directly bulldozes the enemy) and consider that good, honest magic, as opposed to magic that deceives and corrupts. What they have now just doesn't work with the characters they had already decided represent Demacia and their abilities. There's even the trivia that appears every so often about Demacian steel's special interaction with magic.
