What they did with Bard was what they should have done with Sona from the beginning

Sona should have only emitted musical ques instead of speaking telepathically to the summoner. She had been clearly stated to be mute, so it's naturally off-putting to hear her "mental" voice. It's also silly to give her telepathy when nowhere in her lore does it indicate she has that ability. I know there is the "summoner link" thing to argue, but either way it didn't need to be done.

Musical ques for Sona would have been much more interesting and immersive. Perhaps when she gets a full VU, that can be changed because of summoners and the Institute no longer being a thing, although that no doubt won't be happening within the next couple years.

Sona isn't telepathic. Summoner and Champion share a mental link that allows them to work in harmony in the League matches.

None of this is relevant in the current lore - but that is why you hear her mental voice. It has nothing to do with her being telepathic and everything to do with YOU having an empathic link with her.

I try not to worry about it too much. As long as they leave it in the game, I can keep believing nothing's changed. They're good VOs I hope they never see fit to change these champs' recordings.

I really liked the old canon for the characters.

They want to make it so these characters aren't just putting their lives on hold and joining a deathmatch where death is not final as a proxy for all-out war. That's fine.

Some of the characters' stories didn't need to be changed so much to accommodate this.

I understand a lot of the Shurima stuff. They really needed a way to make it so Nasus and Renekton weren't interdimensional gods who'd been forced from their home to Runeterra and then agreed to fight this world's wars in the League. Cool. But what up with Cassiopeia?

The only stuff I like about Shurima is Nasus and Renekton's new lores, though I do agree with you. I really like those a whole lot. But I just can't stand what they've done to Xerath, Cass and Sivir.

New Lore is like Jayce-Viktor all over again, except worse. ;s

I'm still waiting for more of the Xerath story to unfold. They did need a way to bind someone that powerful without Summoners, but I have yet to be impressed with their ideas.

I guess their thoughts were akin to the spell backfiring because he was, "impure" for some reason? Eh, I'm not expecting any kind of character depth or any revelations from Xerath's lore like there was in the old Lore. Old Lore was just-... inspiring. Now it's just a bunch of spat out garbage to make a buck... :(

Interesting thoughts and comments. You might really enjoy what we did with DJ Sona. Her VO was taken and chopped up, effected, reversed, and mashed up into vocoded musical accents for all three of her genre styles.

I disagree. I think Sona's voice adds a lot to her, and her joke and taunt having no voice, as well as her death, is a really cool way to make her. The summoner link is an appropriate means for hearing one's inner thoughts (in my opinion, of course).

It's almost tragic, with summoners no longer existing outside of the game (in the same fashion they did before, anyway) there's no way for poor Sona to speak to anyone.

Speaking of which, I hope Sona gets some lore updates soon! that would be cool.

Sona isn't "mentally disabled"... she simply cannot emit sound from her mouth for some undefined (and likely magical) reason. That doesn't mean her brain is broken.

First off, I'm fully aware what being mute means. In fact, her lore states she is incapable of producing any sounds whatsoever, which implies it's not just from her mouth.

Secondly, no one said anything about her being "mentally disabled" or having a broken brain.

Lastly, don't go around telling others to "L2P," especially when you're bronze III. Either way, the ability to play Sona has nothing to do with the topic of the thread.

Mental communication is electronic... or otherwise some sort of emission of radation of particles of energy... and NOT the compression of atomic structures that make up sound (reason there is no sound in space). Therefore since Sona is MUTE and not RETARDED or otherwise: Simply not being able to cause sound waves to transmit kinetic energy does not mean other forms of communication is possible.

A "mental link" as implied by the Summoner's relation or otherwise, is a direct communication to your brain and therefore not interacting with the eardrum. Therefore it is not sound.

I actually wasn't implying mental communication had sound. I was only expanding on her lore a bit. Relax. "Mute" isn't a difficult thing to grasp, so you can stop pretending it's more complicated than it is.

Bad players blame the mechanics everyone else plays with. If the season is so terrible, why isn't everyone in bronze? You not having skill doesn't make the game bad. Seriously, you should get down off your pedestal before you get hurt. I can smell your hubris from here. The fact that you feel the need to be superior to someone on a forum when it isn't at all called for or doesn't have any relation to the topic of the thread means you're compensating for something and likely need to re-evaluate your priorities in life.
