Threads are created in a virtuous/vicious cycle

WarGoatGaming··7 votes·1,020 views

I'm sure you're aware of this Riot but there are literally hundreds of threads on these boards that have almost no views and zero replies.

This was very very rare in the old forums and it is profoundly unsatisfying for the authors of these threads. Because of the default sorting views and the vast number of boards most threads are 'lost' almost instantly. Those that do hit the popularity thresholds stay popular for a while in a virtuous cycle.

While this might be an adequate experience for thread contributors it is a terrible experience for thread starters. I have no doubt you are aware of this and a simple check on 'orphan post' numbers in the old and new forums will confirm it.

As well as the numerous other issues mentioned in this feedback section such as design, functionality etc this is the fundamental reason people are leaving the official online community in droves.

Thread tracking is almost nonexistent besides someone is replying to you or ofc, it gets upvote showered or receiving tons of replies, otherwise everything is quickly buried and forgotten.

Why?

They got rid of pages, that's why.

Scroll down, load, scroll down, load, scroll down, load is inefficient, slow and pointless. While on the old forum, you happen to wanna read some older threads? 1 click boom you're there, simple.

The same issue is happening in comment section too, also they changed the usual comment style into this "discussions that go beyond 2 back and forth's will instantly turn into a giant orgy of posts embracing each other with no rhyme or rhythm" thingy.

I have pages.

Change your view settings. -sigh-

You do realize pages are worthless in this format without auto quoting nested replies?

Or just be considerate and hit quote before you reply. Not hard. :P

Great idea! Now if there is only a way I could tell all the thousands of posters using boards to do this and inform any new poster they need to do this as well! You are going places my friend .

Which begs the question, why doesn't replying automatically quote content?

Correct me if I'm wrong Daen, but back when flat view was first introduced and the 'parent' comment bit was happening didn't it accomplish that between views? It was buggy as all get out don't get me wrong, but I don't remember specifically.

It still doesn't do it particularly well, to my knowledge.

Well it simply doesn't anymore right now, people in discussion view have to quote the post for it to make sense in chrono. Something I'll admit I've been slacking on myself.

Honestly I would think the easiest thing to do would be to have the Discussion view's reply act just like chrono and auto-quote the commentee, but in Discussion hide the quote box is that method is used. Hell, with the recent bug I ran into the the less-than symbol I'm sure it's relatively easy to do. Granted once scaling is brought in I'm less sure, but hey.
