[feedback] comments

So that you know where I'm coming from, let me start off by saying that I REALLY, REALLY, hate the way comments are handled right now.

I find that any time discussions get big on these types of forums, specifically, the replies to the replies to the replies, end up making the discussion look like unwieldy globs of text. Even worse is the fact that if you are not interested in that particular comment you either have to scroll through all the nested replies to find one you're actually interested in or you have to keep clicking the collapse button to hide them so you can get to the content you actually want. My solution to this would be to just make the nested replies default into a collapsed state and make people expand them when they want to see the replies.

My other issue has to do with the voting system. I really hate how what gets up-voted determines what gets seen first in the replies. It's counter productive to good discussion and helps ensure that only popular viewpoints get seen and heard on the forums. An idea I've had to fix this is to have a top 3(5?) comments section with the 3 most up-voted comments and than have the rest of the comments appear below them ordered by newest/oldest.

I really hope that someone at Riot addresses these issues.

Yes I completely agree! In a long thread I got really lost navigating through all the nested comments! I think having the nested comments closed by default would be such a big help!!! Please Riot listen! I personally don't mind the up voting ... It's just the inefficiency of all the scrolling and collapsing that really got me turned off to this new format
