New Interface Artstyle a step back

Hello Guys

I want to be constructive here, but I will not change anything anyways, so I just express my opinion

Im a UX / interface & game designer, and I think the new art direction (not touching functionality here) for the client and the board, well all the outgame UI is a major step back. I dont understand anything of this. What is this for a palette, pale brown and teal ? How does that relate to league ? Where is this thin line style coming from ? League is cartoony and chunky, larger than life, expressive not lacy. There is nothing lacy at all in leagues Artstyle and there never was. The fonts look out of place and there is nothing to anchor them in place. Also there are serif fonts in places where they shouldnt. What is this all supposed to be ? Also why the sudden shift ?

Why are we not making the outgame UI conform to the ingame UI ?

The ingame UI style is masterfully crafted, it is both unique and fits league perfectly. The same with the old board style. Its mere a meta representation but it creates immersion.

Dont get me wrong, I really enjoy flat and modern design, but not in this case. And the launch and play buttons just look wrong. There is some caustics-like effects on them, but theyre not animated. They have a false sense of depth, the guy doing it didnt know how to make a button appear physical. There are so many things that are just not looking good. And it dosnt have any character and its not impressing with nice color or font choice either.

And again, why is the outgame UI totally different from the ingame ui ? And why are we not following the great style of the ingame ui ?

And to make this even clearer, imagine the ingame UI being in the same style as this board. Would you enjoy that ? Dosnt fit at all, does it ?

So why here ? Who pushed this trough ? I am sure many rioters disagreed with the new design.

Yep I've noticed this, it's really weird. It looks especially odd on the Create a Discussion button, since it's a relatively small font size and not bolded apparently.

And it doesn't have any character.

Let's reiterate this.

And it dosn't have any character.

I think this completely 100% explains my weird feelings about the Boards. It doesn't feel...visceral. I don't know how to explain it, but you're right on with this. I like the aesthetic design goals and the clean lines, but it totally feels like there's some fundamental personality and sparkle missing.

It's almost washed out, in a way, and not just via colors. It's as though the whole design of the platform is meant to distill it into a functional piece rather than being a home for the players.

And again, why is the outgame UI totally different from the ingame ui ? And why are we not following the great style of the ingame ui ? And to make this even clearer, imagine the ingame UI being in the same style as this board. Would you enjoy that ? Dosnt fit at all, does it ?

I addressed this above, and I completely agree. The client has a similar sort of minimalism look, but it has a ton of personality and...vibrancy to it. I don't get the feeling that I'm really engaged on the Boards; it's more of a "cool, discussion" thing rather than "cool, the Boards".

Umm, the game launcher is teal. if you knew anything about ui/ux you would see that cohesion.

also this isn't flat design.

In matter of inconsistency of in and out game art. I think that it all revolves around new SR.

Meaning that old ingame UI might be replaced, as it happens with splash arts and textures for models.

I must say that I like this "modern" style. So It is all good with me. I also suffer from beliveing in Riot, that they know what they are doing and that all will be great in the end.
