I mean its not really organized as well, There is the sub communities, but I am not of the whole 'wall' thing, and after much scrolling it tends to lag my browser. I do like the fact I have a profile though, and can receive messages.
Maybe I just need to get used to it? What do you guys think of the new style?
atz999918 votesI have nothing against reddit but I don't use it because I am much more comfortable with traditional forums. The few times I have tried to use reddit it has always seemed that the first few comments that are insightful or funny always get a ton of up votes and then its just a giant circle jerk of those few posts making it hard for new posts to be read by anyone.
I suppose it is good for times that you don't have a long time to read but those people seem to have less of an impact with their votes because the things they will be reading are the things already voted on just like you said.
I am glad you can change it to recent post style but I feel like if there is a lot of responses I will be missing a ton of posts in either mode.
I don't know, I guess I need to get used to it as well.

Calderweiss2 votesYeah, I love how riot says that they want to focus more on the contribution then the contributor, but if all the non upvoted posts are drowned out, then this is completely counteractive to newer opinions which get lost in the upvote/downvote war.
If contribution/contributor on the forums, then WHY are we using reddit format, which is counter intuitive to this kind of thinking?
Cypherous7 votesNot a fan of it myself, it doesn't feel like a forum, really not sure who thought this was a smart move but i would have to disagree with them completely, you can almost get forum functionality back if you default the display to recent instead of best but you have to keep redoing it for every URL so i might just have to greasemonkey something together, there are reasons i dont use reddit, i dislike the way its presented and it makes it annoying as hell to read with replies to a comment being posted with that comment instead of in a traditional chronological order and layout

atz99997 votesWhile it's not prevalent in this thread(is that an accurate term here?) I think what makes it harder is that the first up votes/comments will impact what everyone after will see so heavily. The other option is to see what was most recent.
While this is obviously a problem with regular forums too (everyone reads the first few pages and the most recent one) I am not sure this solves that problem. (If it can be solved or if you guys were even trying to solve it.)
That is just referring to being inside of a thread not the "wall thing" that OP was talking about.
(I'm not sure if I made sense please tell me if I didn't and I can try to rephrase myself to be more understandable)

As atz9999 mentioned, the current forum structure has its issues as well, but I find them much more manageable. If I really want to commit to reading an entire thread, it makes much more sense to read the conversation chronologically instead of trying to sort through all the parent/child conversations. Even if there are people who think the opposite (probably true), why would we make both forum structures--including the league subreddit--the same if the goal is to enhance the communities options? I think it would be better to provide distinct structures, and keep this forum with a more traditional message board format.

That's a huge problem, and I think it's one worth solving. It's a problem on reddit in some sections but it really isn't on others. Here's a thread in a subreddit that I don't think has the circlejerky problem and it's largely due to the subject matter, and how it's moderated. http://www.reddit.com/r/TheoryOfReddit/comments/1miv64/is_moderator_labor_an_issue_on_reddit/
I think we'll end up with something similar - in that some of our subcommunities will be really circljerky and some of them will have a lot of structure that enforces a well-thought and thorough discussion.

atz99992 votesAfter skimming that thread I agree that it does not suffer from the circlejerky problem. I also agree with your assessment that it is probably largely due to the subject matter and I think, additionally, that people in that thread's passion for the subject matter has an impact. I also agree that different (especially smaller and thus more intimate) sub-communities and sections will have less problem with this however if they are a smaller group in the first place they probably wouldn't have had problems with the old forums.
If we take the Live Balance sub-community, for example, if/when GD is removed people should go there to spout their "nerf Champion X, I swear its not just because I lost to one." In "discussions" like that good or different ideas that are not popular or suggestions that include nerfing said "Champion X" will get down-voted by a bunch of people playing said champion regardless of whether it is good/insightful (or it will be ignored and slip through the cracks never to be read by anyone). This is directly related to people posting the witty comments and other easily accepted responses that will be up voted and essentially drowning out the other responses.
I'm not saying there is no problems with the normal style of forums, because there obviously is, and they are in many respects similar to the problems posed around here in the Beta Feedback sub-forum for this new style. However, with this opportunity available while you guys are trying to improve this new style of forum's experience, I cannot help but wonder if there is even a way to fix these issues for either system? (Especially this new one since it is what you guys are working on.)

Some people actually like the low-investment circle-jerk stuff. I personally don't - but I think we can create an environment where both can exist and you're only exposed to the stuff that is relevant and interesting to you.

LVNsNASmurf2 votesNeither option is any good. When commenting bumps, the best threads are also the most recently updated. Whereas, with your 'best' sorting, it's simply what has been around long enough to be upvoted. Recent had nothing with any discussion.
Also, you should default minimise reply threads beyond the second nest. For example, your comment I'm replying to would be minimised away.

I remembered exactly what thread I posted in, what comment I had replied to and what I had said in the post (ctrl+F for the win?). After an hour of digging through "Show more content" tabs I concluded that my post was simply no longer there.

TheUltimate31 votesNow I already think this format won't work, like at all. But the only way I can see it having a chance if there are large, noticable dividers between "topics". What I mean is I expect there will still be a General Forum, Dominion Forum, Fan Art/Fan Fiction, ect.
Because otherwise, the smaller boards are going to be drowned out instantly.
THØT PÄTRØL 1 votesI just in general hate it I liked where I could pick a forums section and just see the new posts now its the same ones everyday because they are popular and I never see new content. This is due to the fact I don't want to scroll page after page for something newly posted.
