Wow, another reddit, but only for league of legends. this is what lol really needed, more reddit redundancy. i mean what if reddit were to go down, we would have only had the official forums to communicate on.

Idk about anyone else but doesn't this come across as one of those ideas some executive comes up with because he read an article on how successful reddit is in the business times or something.

Still only '?' avatars in the forums though, after years and years. :P

anyway i have some more ideas for you:

lolbook, like facebook only for league of legends

lol community tiles: like pintrest only for league of legends, extra good because it has those tiles designers keep misusing for everything.

lolchan, league of legends image board.

lolmail, e-mail but only for league stuff.

lolOS, an operating system which will only run league.

and of course,

lolol, league of league of legends, it's a league of legends based league of legends.

Technically, our current GD is basically 4chan for LoL. Except without gore.

Very well thought through, solid ideas, I couldn't fault them if I tried.

I would be absoulutely shocked if Riot didn't implement all these.

Well actually they're only using the "reddit" layout as a base and plan on heavily differentiating it from there. Hell, this is more of an alpha than a beta to be completely honest.

But if you wanna talk about redundancy we could talk about using vBulletin and not just scraping the forums entirely.

Seriously, where's the fairness in upvote bumping vs post bumping? Post bumping is actual activity

Post bumping is also noise that makes it harder to follow any given thread...and it's a waste of memory.

Also note that threads that followed the current community "trend" or managed to be both well-written and convincing were a lot more likely to get bumped anyway.

You're speaking like a designer. You should think like a consumer.

Bumping isn't 'noise'. Someone with OCD might be annoyed but your average person is just going to move on to the next legitimate post. the only time bumping becomes a concern is when it reaches absurd lengths.

And there's a reason the phrase "Upvoting without bumping is a crime" was invented. Because there is such a thing as enjoyed threads that get lost just because someone upvoted without saying anything.

Upvotes are just no substitute for substance.

I honestly believe it is stupid to say that a bump doesn't reduce the readability of a thread. Having to filter out actual conversation and useless bumps (especially since not all bumps are simply "bump", they sometimes drawings, acronyms, useless chatter totally unrelated, etc.)

And honestly, I don't understand why the reddit-style makes the it any worse... You comment but don't upvote? Fine, it's taken into account and slightly bumped! You upvote but don't comment? Fine, it's taken into account and slightly bumped! You upvote and comment? fine it's taken into accoutn and slightly bumped! You come back every so often to bump the thread? If you're the only one keeping the thread alive, he will flat out ignore you, if you're a few hundreds taht find the post still relevant and keepign it alive, well guess what! It'll stay alive!

Reddit : 1 - vBulletin : 0

Rewarding self bumps is the best way to screw a community over honestly...

Wow, another discussion plateform for League of Legends. This is what LoL needed, more communication capabilities. I mean, what if the old platform didn't allow for some new technologies to be plugged in? We would be stuck with only self bump threads and [?] icons.

Idk about anyone else but doesn't this come across as one of those ideas some executive comes up with because they feel that for a terrifyingly huge amount of time thier company (Riot Games) has had problems with their communication platform being restrictive and/or obsolete.

As for the [?] icons, they said time and time again that there were technological limitations on the vBulletin format the prevented them from doing a proper job with icons. Also, they'd lose their "Red post" first look identity if they added in icons. A new platform help solve that.

Anyway, a few things that can/could be done using this platform :

Prevent self bumps.
Multi-server threads.
Personal notifications.
Directed replies.
Popularity-based suggestions.
In-game icon based on forum activity.
Personal markup (embedding .rofl files, aka replays/embedding champions stats a la LoLwiki)

So yeah, sometimes you have to dig deeper than your nose can reach to understand why some changes were made...

i had a vbulletin message board in highschool, i had avatars. every other vbulletin message board on the internet has avatars and most of those aren't run by multimillion dollar companies.

But that's what I mean by "proper job". You had custom uploaded icons, which require a shitton of moderation and prevent the Rioter's icons' unicity.

So yeah, you can't in any way, link in-game avatar with vbulletin avatars.. My point still stand.
