[IDEA] Prevent Bronze 5 Trolling via Ranked Suspension

(Before you dismiss me, I'm not in Bronze 5. I finished in Silver 2 in Season 3 and I was placed in Silver 2 for Season 4.)

Hi, so I have a lot of friends who are in bronze and are feeling pretty aggravated being stuck in "elo hell." In Season 3 I was placed in Bronze 3, and a short while later dropped to Bronze 5. I completely empathize with their situation; Bronze 5 is significantly more terrible than Bronze 2 or 1, for example.

The problem is that people are at the very bottom, so then they just stop caring whether they win or lose, and just play either to troll or for the heck of it. My proposition is that, if at Bronze 5 with 0 LP, if they lose 3 or 5 matches (5 if you want to be generous) in a row, they will be suspended from ranked play for a week (7 days).

So, you might be asking, "How is that going to help anything, Mearna?" Well, allow me to briefly explain:

During the week that they are suspended from ranked, (remember, this is NOT because of leaverbuster, being a bad sport, or whatever), they have time to practice more champions and harnessing their skills a little better in normal 5's or ARAMs.

Let me stress that the rank suspension is NOT a ban, it is simply a "time-out" that is simply doing what is best for you. This way there is the potential to get less trolls or AFKers (this is not a fix-all, but I guarantee it'll cut it down some) which will increase the overall quality of matchmaking in low tier play.

Thoughts? Refinements? Further suggestions?

First of all you gotta properly represent the dangers of living in BRONZE LYFE. I am a refugee in Bronze 5 having relocated from 94lp Silver 5 riiiight before the reset. I was unaware about the ramifications of dodging during provisionals so I didn't dodge queue at all. I believe this was my biggest mistake outside of not having enough pateince to wait a month before playing ranked.

I have had more trolls after season 4 began than before. Now that I am out of my placement matches I have begun dodging super toxic players and my match record with jinx has climbed back up near 70% So I would LOVE this system because I don't seem to ever lose more than 2 games in a row and the BRONZE LYFE is a HARD LYFE TO LEAVE

LOVE THIS IDEA!!

This really is a good idea. I don't see why this wouldn't/shouldn't be implemented.

Not much time for me to say anything, but I like your idea.

I don't see how this really helps the people who are just on the teams of the people who decide to troll or whatever. I wouldn't really know though, I finished in Silver II just like you last season, but was placed in Bronze I this season. The quality of the players drops significantly with each tier and division, so this might weed out some of the bad people who play just to troll, but it might give a "time-out" to some people who are actually trying to play ranked to leave and get promoted but are unfortunate enough to get the trolls.

How in the hell did I get bronze 5 I won 6 of the 10 games... so yea I quit

I like your idea but I don't think it is necessary to be added. I mean people who troll will eventually get report. Also, hell ello doesn't exist.Let's say you have 4 trolls on your team and 5 trolls on their team. Should you be able to win since u r better than them? or are u a bronze V yourself.Think

divisions should be based on kda instead of mmr cuz it's faster.

DarkeNight1/24/2014, 3:57:09 PM1 votes

No. This is simply a bad idea. Not everyone in bronze 5 is a troll most people just suck. Alot. Banning them from playing is discouraging climbing back up the ranked ladder.

I completely agree. I stopped trying to do ranked just because I lost so many games from trolls who didn't get a position they wanted but the problem will be mostly fixed with the new teambuilder. Tried it out on PBE and you can see and understand who someone is going to play before the game starts

This is an issue with the 5th division with ALL tears, but with Bronze especially. This could lead to something, but just using time wouldn't necessarily solve much. Their would need to be a system to crack onto repeaters because some trolls would just turn to trolling elsewhere until they can troll in ranked again. And also keep in mind, sometimes people just troll every other game or such, so using this lossess in a row method wouldn't be ideal. I think there just needs to be more attention from riot support to the reports especially to people who are lower divisions. The problem with this? EVERYBODY REPORTS EVERYBODY. The trolls will report you, you will report trolls, people report people simply when they have a bad game, or a bad gank, or just to troll, etc. etc. Although I'd love to believe this would be a fix, it wouldn't really do help moreso than lower the amount of players (due to frustration) and discourage lower ranked people from playing.

When I started playing League a year ago, i quickly found myself at bronze V 0 pts Amumu , where I stayed until I found out how easy it was to win games at this elo. Then miraculously... I climbed straight to silver Ziggs I honestly wouldnt mind being placed in bronze v from silver v, because the climb would be so easy Draven (i got bronze 1 from silver 1 so). Even if your teammate feeds 5 kills in a lane, it doesnt matter that much does it? Just outplay them later in game, swap lanes, splitpush, ward up, etc. A fed bronze v will do at least one mistake that can throw the game, right?

Edit : maybe not ranked suspension, but people who get a consistent negative kda in bronze V and who frequently get reported for intentional feeding could well be placed in a special division for people who... Brand are rather unskilled at this game Chogath ... which is a legit motive for report anyways. Paper v, cardboard v, plastic v, we've all heard that. Riot its time for u guys to make it happen!

I don't know that this will ease the tensions that you're speaking of. Yes, I read all of what you said. Yes, it did sound good at first. And yes, I've had my fair share of Bronzie adventures. (Disclaimer: I am bronzie in body and heart)

First, realize that this may cause more harm than help. You say that the ban is to get rid of "trolls" and such, and they do exist, but this system will also punish the victims that it hopes to help. D/c 4v5 three games in a row? Guess I have to wait a week. I thought cases like this would be extreme until I observed my Bronze IV-V friends and saw how frequently they had to deal with these situations. They genuinely deserve to be at least a little higher based on their skill level, but have large losing streaks due to things out of their control. (Yes, they could practice enough to carry a 4v5 or 3v5 or carry an intentional feeder who didn't get the lane he wanted, and climb out of Bronze altogether, but that's a compeltely different level of skill that they shouldn't have to have just to reach the the division above the very bottom.

Second, I think this strays a bit farther from the actual root of the problem. The alleged trolls. If a player will troll in a Ranked game, which holds a considerable amount of weight in comparison to a normal game, then chances are this behavior is habitual and will translate to normal games as well. We all wish players like this would simply learn to play every role and fill as the order goes, but the former of these two options is more likely. Rather than punishing players for not practicing hard enough by other's standards or having a series of miss fortunes (hehe), you might want to look more into erecting harsher punishments for misconduct in Ranked games (which is a well known topic among the forums), more specifically an intentional disconnection, intentional feeding, or toxic behavior.

Keep in mind, the expectation is that, since toxic behavior in Ranked generally translates to norms and is displayed frequently, they will frequent the Tribunal and punishments (such as the week long suspension you mentioned) will be dealt accordingly. In this manner, you might want to look into modifying the Tribunal as well.

This is just my take. If I sounded hostile, it was NOT intended. ^^

edit: left out the word "not"
