Long story short Making the "basic" tab in the formatting guide resemble the "paragraph" one where you can see where to put spaces and enters.

That was me. Thanks for posting it. I hadn't gotten around to mentioning something about it yet.
To give a bit more detail on my problem, it was mostly with the bullet list. I couldn't figure out what was needed to make it work. I just kept getting italicized text. It's impossible to tell at a glance on the formatting guide that you need a space before the asterisk to create the list.
Apparently, another option is a double space in your text. But it just bothers me to see such a vast difference in the formatting from the text box to what actually gets shown. Having an extra line between each bullet point in the text box makes lists just feel bulky to put in.
