Suggestion: Boards Inbox/Private Messaging?

Hey guys, just wanted to put this idea out there and see what people think but I always thought it was weird that League never really gave you any way to contact your friends who are offline or not currently online in-client and then I figured that now that we have boards, surely we could use that as the platform to do so?

I think it'd be nice to be able to have private conversations with other players away from the client, but I dunno if that's a sentiment that's shared or not so I guess that's the reason for this discussion.

Obviously I have no idea how much work it'd take to implement such a system, but I see them on forums everywhere else all the time, so yeah..

What do you guys reckon?

Being able to leave out-of-game messages for friends, talk to people outside of the boards? Sure, sounds nice.

But it comes at the cost of trolls harassing you directly and phishing spam being even worse.

I personally think the cost outweighs the benefit.

This has been suggested before, but that being said I think it's a great idea.

re: Valkyrie's point of spam/phishing (perfectly reasonable concern)

This is all assuming, of course, there is an option to block unwanted persons. The lvl 1 bot spam in my experience has been lessened noticeably due to efforts from various Riot teams, of course it could also just be me. Point is, the same solutions being implemented for phishing strategies on the client can be applied to the hypothetical messaging system. Won't be perfect of course, but I believe it'd be mitigated enough to be worth it. Not to mention allow easier creation of chat-related mobile applications since this would be disconnected from the client.
