Boards were created a while ago, and the lack of traditional forums still feels suffocating.
Because of the default "Hot" organization of the boards, I feel like posts that aren't upvoted will get buried and unanswered. Asking simple questions or requesting advice is a type of thread that will never get enough upvotes to gain visibility in this system, so the only resource I had for just tossing a quick question to the general community is completely gone.
I seriously feel like there's nowhere I can go for these kind of questions. If I have technical difficulties, I have to do a google search, which invariably gives me a 2-3 year-old forum post. If I have a gameplay or meta question, I have to ask my teammates in a game. Every time I look at the boards I wonder how much content just never gets seen.
Defaulting the display of threads to "new" MIGHT help things, and would be an easy change. Otherwise, from a casual user's standpoint, this whole thing still feels like Riot clumsily trying to capitalize on Reddit's popularity. I don't want Reddit, I want forums. We already HAD Reddit, and now the forums are gone. =/
