STOP SHOVING THESE BOARDS UP OUR THROATS

Dremons··3 votes·885 views

Now we cant even quickly go to the normal boards, as both board icons bring us here. Stop this already!

EDIT: As a guy who wont get used to this forum, its horrible to see how Riot promotes it despite the users of the original. one. Almost no Reds there anymore. I've seen enough of Riot to know that, when they want to do something, they wont stop for anything, even the own goddamn players, no matter how bad they become (see Nasus new Voice Over). Im just mad about it and wanted y'all to know that there actually are people who dont like the same things as you and would be fucking pissed to be redirected here. EDIT2: Had http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/index.php bookmarked on my last pc. Thats how I ended up here.

This (attachment) not work for you? Does for me.

Hoi Im Temmo1 votes

Lol. ^ well played.

Regardless, these boards are better anyway.

To each their own, there are things that the Board is majorly lacking in so I understand if a decent number of people would rather go elsewhere.

However, coming and complaining over an issue that can be solved with a bookmark in a browser and a single click is something I don't understand.

I had it bookmarked on my previous computer. What Im trying to say is that they are indeed forcing us to come here. I was surprised, as I ended up here when I wanted to go to Champion Feedback. Also, new players will ultimately end up using these forums, as they were the first to be thrown at them, while they possibly wont even know what GD is. For me, this is another low-blow from Riot.

I don't consider that a low-blow at all. I consider it unbiased feedback on an unfinished beta from fresh eyes. Naturally a majority of GD will have lash-back to the Boards (as you have made yet another very articulated example of), and navigating to GD first will of course color their opinion of the Boards before even looking at it.

If you're worried about the Boards attracting newer players more than vBulletin, well thn you haven't explored the Boards enough, this place is very unfinished with incomplete formatting, an imperfect sorting system and constantly changing layouts, as is the nature of an ever-changing Beta. Of course one also has to worry about the current representation of vBulletin through GD's current community, which may end up being more of a push away than the Board's weak pull.

Also why, if I may ask, did you not say this exact comment instead of your all-caps zero constructive feedback OP? Trust me when I say that the community here is willing to listen to negative feedback towards the Boards, I've given a fair share myself, but when a seemingly rage post comes around it's taken with much less consideration.

As I just edited, I was really mad at it. I just don't see the reason for Riot to create an entirely new forum despite having a great community just a few clicks away. I gave them tons of suggestions on updating the old forums with useful stuff that would make our experience better. Now, instead of updating it, they create a whole new one that doesnt resemble at all the one that made me like posting and commenting on forums, and which I really love. For me, this was indeed a low-blow, right in the nuts - and I just know they're going to finish the job.

I respect your ties to vBulletin. It's something I personally never really liked for various reasons, but that doesn't mean other people can't love the format.

I understand that the presence of the Boards and the impending change, no matter how far out, hurts. As such, it makes sense that you are frustrated angry, and probably scared as well (I don't mean that as an insult). And now that I understand your view I can sympathize with it, thank you for the explanation.

However, I am sorry to say I personally disagree with your view. I'm not saying you are wrong in any way, but simply that my view and your view are different. I like the Boards better and would probably be just as pissed as you are now if Riot suddenly announced it's closure and instead revamped and revived vBulletin.

If you would like to have a discussion on the specifics of vBulletin you like and what about the Boards you don't like would be happy to oblige you. I will listen with the intention of trying to understand your view and do my best to hold my own opinions until they are asked for by you, if you ever ask for them. I want to hear your side.

(Note, I will not be able to respond again until midday tomorrow due to my apartment's internet being upgraded at this very moment, very sorry)

I didnt come here expecting anyone to agree with me, since they are already here. I just wanted to express how I fell about Riot's actions towards the Forums. I'm afraid there wont be any agreement, since they didnt do anything before and probably wont do anything now. I am, however, glad to see that there are people open to dialog here. I have left another thread here (http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/champions-gameplay/NaMsvHE6-essential-problem-old-player-rant) and will probably check it out later, but I dont think I'll come back here until they close GD. See you on the Fields, then.

Sir ArmaMalum1 votes

Ok, I'll check it out when I can, I look forward to talking with you :)

Except when you want to actually go to Champion Feedback, cause you have to go to GD then all the way back. Its just so goddamn great, since they dont want us there anyway.

Sir ArmaMalum1 votes

Okay here's what you do:

  1. Navigate through GD to Champion feedback

  2. Bookmark that forum

  3. never have to navigate through GD or the Boards again and in fact get there faster than you did before

  4. profit

I believe my other reply will clarify this.

Obligatory anatomy lesson; the neck is below the mouth, thus shoving things up our throats is literally impossible unless it originates somewhere far less desireable.

Dremons1 votes

Any person with a brain knows that the quickest way to shove something up someones throat is through the mouth. However, I use it as a metaphor, as in force feeding you-know-what in a most humiliating way, since they are the ones offering the service. Also, as said above, its an infuriating low-blow from them.

Personally, I don't really consider it a low blow. General Discussion is still available, as are the other original forums. I'm a bit unclear on what you're angry about; is it the fact that the Boards are more prominently displayed than GD/the original forums?

There's a distinct reason for that, players that are new to the forums would likely find a more supportive and nurturing atmosphere in the Boards beta than they would on General Discussion. Riot also wants our feedback. This platform has had so many changes that were suggested by the community, and I am confident that will continue into the future.

le sigh

You yourself said it was impossible to shove anything up someones throat. If it still bothers you, just turn the person upside-down. And yes, it is the fact that its is "more prominently displayed". Anyways, Im mad about how they ignored the changes we suggested them for the old forums and are now soooo happy to "introduce" their lovely new forum. Also, I dont believe players are looking for a "supportive and nurturing atmospere". All the people who are still in GD, well, are still there.

They have been over this countless times; it was horrendously inefficient for them to enact those suggestions on the old forums. The Boards are built by Riot by hand from the ground up, so they have a lot more control over how it functions.

Also, I dont believe players are looking for a "supportive and nurturing atmospere". All the people who are still in GD, well, are still there.

GD as a concept has a lot of problems. The lack of organization makes it really hard for people to feel as though their posts matter, and the speed at which things move makes it basically a necessity to constantly bump things you find important. The platform is great for off topic discussion (and by proxy, circle jerk), and relatively bad for real and thoughtful discussion.

For players interested in the circle jerk, GD is perfect. For those that want a more stimulating experience, I feel the Boards are the logical choice. I'm sure there's disagreement, but the way to help the situation is not to tell Riot the Boards suck. The way you can try to get the platform to be the way you want it is to suggest improvements and build support for them.

This board is awesome.

Hyrum Graff1 votes

I would agree with you, except:

  • It takes exactly the same amount of time/clicks to get to GD (See armamalum's post)
  • Nobody uses anything except GD
Dremons1 votes

You're wrong on that. Champion Feedback and Item Discussion are still alive and kicking.

Hyrum Graff1 votes

The bottom post on the home page of Item Discussion received a bump 3 days ago. The Champion Feedback equivalent was 13 hours ago. GD's was 9 minutes ago.

Given that, I don't think it's unreasonable to add in a single additional step (mouse over "Boards," click "Forums," from "click Forums"). Especially when a lot of you guys have those forums bookmarked anyway.

Sir ArmaMalum1 votes

On the Edit2, when I opened it it brought me to the normal vBulletin list of sub-forums. Are you angry that the Community Beta link is at the top? I'm confused because it sounds like the link in question brought you directly here.

Hyrum Graff1 votes

EDIT2: Had http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/index.php bookmarked on my last pc. Thats how I ended up here.

That link still takes me to the listing of the old forums.
