Riot seriously needs to up their punishments by a lot

I've been playing league for almost 6 years now, and about 3 of those years I've been playing competitively. For the past probably year and a half the community has been so aggressive, toxic, and there is no end of it in sight. Ever since I've first started playing league I've been friendly to everyone I've met that has been friendly back, and i never go into a game with the intention on being a jackass to other people, but to win and have fun, the way games are meant to be played. But lately especially you will be bashed for everything and anything.. people will go out of their way to throw games and intentionally feed, and it's gotten to the point now where myself, (as i like to think i'm a rather kind player) have to get aggressive back in order to get any amount of mutual respect from a majority of players.. It honestly ruins the game for me, and it has to ruin the game for countless other players as well.. I've gotten to the point where I've just straight up wanted to close the client mid-game and never play again. There doesn't seem to be any way to stop this, and i could just /mute all but you shouldn't have to resort to that in a TEAM game.. I just think the best way to start fixing this is to be a lot more harsh on punishments.. And i don't mean banning someone for a week because they flamed once or twice in a game, but if that's what it takes then maybe thats what needs to happen. Its just getting way too out of control and its been bothering me for quite a while now

How long has Riot (and this community) been trying to stop "toxicity" by simply throwing chat restrictions and bans to players that are toxic in chat?

Well guess what, IT OBVIOUSLY ISN'T FUCKING WORKING. But until the community stops trying to be social justice warriors and actually wants to address other forms of toxicity, nothing is going to change. As made obvious by the 3+ years of them trying.

They'd do well to start punishing people who actually ruin the game rather than someone who calls an 0/10 feeding troll "bad".

Another day, another "MAKE THE DRACONIAN SYSTEM MORE DRACONIAN PLS ROIT" thread.....

The current iteration of the system is the absolute most draconian system I've ever seen implemented in a video game, ever. It does not need to be made more draconian.

I am more sick of people (I have to say I think its mostly children) who take constructive arguments as flame and call you toxic flamer and actually report you, more than actual flamers (which I havent seen many lately for some reason). I mean yesterday I played with a guy who decided to pick Ziggs instead of ADC, he probably saw that Shiptur is rocking NA challenger with it and ofc he fed hard , he was 0 5 after 5 minutes while his supp was 0 0, I made a comment "there is a reason it works in challenger, not for us bronzies" after which he started to flame me (the 4 0 1 jungler) calling me a useless fuck and saying that the enemy Lee (who didnt gank anyone untill lvl 7, you literally couldnt see his items) is better and carries them, also calling Thresh an imbecile and asking to report him, then went mid to int for 5 minutes, then inted again later when I refused to give him a blue buff... My last game today I was playing with a Trundle who went 0 8 1, while going full ad constantly, I said "trundle, when you feed you shouldnt go AD, try going tank isntead", I was called toxic, team was called retarded, he went mid to int untill we surrendered couple mins later.

People who cant handle the fact that they are doing bad in a game and get toxic about it should be banned seriously, if you are 0 6 0 and keep going full damage and fight constantly 1v1, and then dont want to communicate with your team pretending you are not ruining their game, then respond to criticism by going to int mid, you deserve the permaban imo...

Put bluntly and honestly, the system is a joke.

There are numerous trolls I've come across who do everything from tell you exactly how to kill yourself to feed constantly and say in chat they do this on purpose, and yet time and time again reports seem to have no real effect. One guy the other day said to me "report is my middle name" and bragged about trolling for years with no punishment, and the saddest thing is I believed him.

So, how do we fix some of this? I have ideas, tell me whatcha think!

  • People who continually refuse to click "accept" or who routinely click "decline" multiple times take a 5-20 minute queue ban - stacks up to five times before it becomes a 48 hour ban, 72 hour ban, 2 week ban. I don't mean one or two times I mean the ones who click decline 5-6 times in a row just to troll or who refuse to click accept when queueing in.

  • Add the term "kys" as hate speech since it is the abbreviation for "kill yourself" and should be treated as such

  • Stand Your Ground: If somebody trash talks you without it getting personal, or into hate speech, you can smack them right back and face no penalty. As long as they respond, you can respond back within the rules and they cannot report you. I'm talking about general "u r bad" comments nothing serious. Basically, one comment per one comment.

  • Nasty chats should result in chat restrictions, but telling people to kill themselves or intentionally feeding/aiding enemy team should have harsher punishments, up to and including ranked rewards removal and possible week long bans. Let the punishment fit the crime, nobody should be banned for life for telling people they are bad or they suck - but to tell people what form of lung cancer to get and how painfully to die? That's a whole other matter.

Ironically, one thing that might fix most of the hostility is adding 1vs1 mode for normal and ranked - get the tryhard heroes out of a team game and let them fight individually. This would help cut down on the number of toxic types that queue in since they think they already belong in the LCS with their attitudes.

After years of playing the game, I've learned, if you set up a positive environment, you'll get a positive team. It's a basic skill that works 80% of the time for me. I'm in bronze rn (I know that most people in bronze rn are actually gold/plat people, but still), and I've only had positive games. I've even had tons of afks. We didn't even report them, we understood sometimes things happen.
