I'm Not Asking To Be Unbanned, I'm Only Asking A Few Questions.

I fucked up, and I know that, so I'm not actually asking to be unbanned, but I do have a few questions.

  1. Me and the enemy were just fooling around and yes, while being rather insensitive with our words (I'll post the chat log later, pretty racist I guess), it was made clear that we were joking around with each other, we even honored each other after the game. But my question is why was I banned if we were joking around, was it simply JUST the words we used? Because there was on person on my team who didn't appreciate those words, and I get it, understandable. But couldn't he have just muted me?

  2. I looked it up but I just want someone to confirm, will I lose my border? It's fine if I do, I completely understand if I lose it, as I know I'm also losing my honors from people.

  3. Say in the future, me and my friends were to get in a game together, and we were openly using bad language, but in a sarcastic way or ironic way, and someone on my team reported us, would we be chat banned/banned.

"Couldn't he just have muted me" isn't really an acceptable reason to allow things though. Remember -- muting is supposed to be a last resort for when a player is problematic enough that you don't want to have to put up with them any more. No matter how you INTENDED your language to come across, other players are forced to listen to it -- it's sort of like shouting racial slurs in a shopping mall: our theoretical person may think it's fine, but no one around him does, and it's unacceptable to say everyone else must either accept it or leave the mall.

Depends on the language. Cursing is acceptable if used properly. Derogatory terms are NOT acceptable regardless of context. As above, the other players also matter, as they're forced to read your language. If they don't think it's acceptable, you will likely be reported.

That said, let's take a look!

So normally I select out the offensive bits so someone can see what parts are the problem. This is an unusual case -- it's easier to filter out what's NOT a problem. But let's start here:

There are other players on your team. While you may consider this sort of offensive, derogatory, sexually-charged language acceptable among your group of friends, that doesn't mean that you are free to inflict it on other players who happen to be on your team. Almost every line of this log violates the Summoner's Code and acceptable community standards, and the whole is one of the least acceptable logs I've seen in a while.

I'd consider it 100% unacceptable under all circumstances, even if every player is entirely on board with it. But it becomes 110% unacceptable if you're inflicting this sort of behavior on even a single player who doesn't feel the way you do.

So, to answer your questions -- it's mostly the words you used, which are derogatory, offensive, sexual, and crass. But it's also the uncaring attitude towards everyone else in your game that exacerbates the problem even further.

And yes, if you continue to behave and chat in this fashion, even if you consider it "sarcastic" or "ironic" (of which this log is neither), or even if you think it's acceptable joking, you will probably be banned fairly quickly.

Riot uses a 100% automated system, so although you may have been joking around and were not serious with those words, the automated system can't see that. It scans for certain words and hands out punishments if it finds those words, regardless of any context.

You won't lose your border, but its possible you would be ineligible to earn one from this season, although in previous seasons that was only the case if you were banned within the last 3 months of the season. Its likely the same this season too.

And yeah, if you stated you were only joking around with friends but someone reported you anyway, you would still be banned.

  1. yes you can be banned for JUST your words. Especially when someone asked you to stop.. be it in a rude way or not, it was made clear that your words weren't appreciated.

  2. I think you will lose it, but I'm not completely sure on that.

  3. Yes you can be punished even if you were just joking with your premade. I recommend voice chat in those cases.

  1. Yes if something like this happens again you will be punished. I'm guessing you are on a 14 day ban. If thats the case you need to be on your absolutely best behavior. The next punishment you get is a permanent ban, you will not be able to get your account back.

I'm just trying to warn you. Literally any punishment after the 14 day ban, no matter how small the infraction is, will get you a permanent ban. So I wouldn't even risk joking around, even if you think everyone is okay with it.
