PSA: Telling somebody to report another teammate is a reportable offense. (How to report somebody)

If you have a person on your team who is being really mean, intentionally feeding, afk, etc. Do not tell your teammates to report them. Doing that can get yourself in trouble, even though you are trying to do the right thing by getting them punished. I know this may sound strange but you are actually being negative when you say,"Yasuo is fed. Report Lux for feeding." Even if she is intentionally feeding, the amount of reports a person gets in a game has nothing to do with how the player you are reporting gets reviewed.

If you want to report somebody here are the steps you should take.

*In game-

  1. Find out what they are doing that is reportable.
  2. Remember specific things they said.
  3. Keep your mouth shut!!! If you are going to report them.
  4. Say "please stop being mean" (It will probably make them say something mean. That is what you want. Doing this will prove to the system they are toxic)
  5. After you ask them to stop being mean it is your choice to mute them (I tend to not mute them since it doesn't bother me. usually I get more evidence to type into the report at the end of the game).

*Post game-

  1. Report the player for the things that bothered you and/or your teammates.
  2. Type the specific things the player did to express negativity throughout the game.

The purpose of this thread is to prevent non-toxic players from getting reported for negativity. If a person is causing problems on your team that are reportable, your teammates will know to report them. Trust me. There is no need to tell your teammates to report somebody, since doing that can get you (a non toxic player) reported as well.

You should also keep in mind that it only takes a single report to trigger a look at the game. Having more reports doesn't make the system look harder for toxic behavior. So report-begging does absolutely nothing.

In a largely automated system, just typing the justification achieves nothing. Asking others to report is vigilante justice of a sort, but in the end, it works to get rid of the worst 'criminals.'

Thank you for the post. It is very well written. Couldn't have said it better myself! Y'all would do well to consider this. ^

I've never understood why people don't realize "report for X" is toxic. It's like you're telling everyone to get on your report bandwagon, and in those situations i usually ignore it, or report THEM unless i see clear reason to report he other player.

with the way this game is going, everyone is just going to /mute all at the beginning of every game. i got a penalty twice in my league career and once an account got permanently banned, all because i asked for someone to get reported and got upset over the fact i was losing an important ranked game. make no mistake, i didn't flame, just came out of my shell and was negative towards the person who was clearly not giving af and completely ruining the game by afking, flaming, and feeding. i know riot makes the rules, and it's their game, and we should play like this and not like that, but honestly, these rules are more detrimental to player health and psychology than not having them would be. now if you have a toxic player, you have to be nice to him. now if you have a toxic player, you need to politely and calmly ask him to please stop being so mean or you'll tell your mommy. MEANWHILE IM DROPPING 3 DIVISION BECAUSE OF THESE RETARDS. and then the icing on the cake is that I get reported, for saying the right thing, to report someone who NOBODY would want to play with. and then the icing on the icing of the cake, the amazing strawberry of justice that is LoL, what happens next you ask? i get banned or chat restricted while the troll fucktard gets to keep playing no problem. fuck this game.

I don't view asking others to report a bad person as negative.

My usual process in which I will file a report.

  1. Player X flames in chat.
  2. I type in chat something along the lines of "focus up, team" or "we still got this."
  3. Player X flames me in chat.
  4. /mute Player X.
  5. Don't type anything in chat unless it's of strategic importance.
  6. Type "gg" in the postgame chat. Report Player X in postgame screen.
  7. Get on with my life.

Every once in a while I report someone for something else like racism, sexism, homophobia, or intentional feeding, but those are definitely lines I don't want players on either team ever to cross. I usually will not report someone if another player report begs, just like I wouldn't honor someone merely because they asked me to. The best thing you can do to continue enjoying a game when another player rages is mute them. The fastest way to tilt and stop enjoying a game when another player rages is to provoke them by raging back and especially by asking other players to report them.
