How to deal with tourist supports?

I main adc. And I often get tourist supports, players who just sit in lane absorbing gold and xp, only ever doing anything as a reaction to the other duo landing something. Obviously this allows the opposing duo to position as agressively as they want, walk up to poke with impunity and pretty much makes taking any cs for me a mortal trial.

Are these players doing this on purpose to lose lane? I find it hard to believe that anybody is that bad. But if so, then why? I can't see a reason. Is there any way to get them to do their job? I'm all confused and frustrated and disappointed at the same time. Somebody help!

They're just trying to play safe. They're either not confident in the position or the match up. I suggest saying to them that maybe you like to play aggressive and if they're a good support they will do accordingly. But as a support main myself, if I'm playing melee into ranged, I will sit back until jg comes to help. Not because i dislike being aggro, it's just cuz you have to be certain that your adc will follow up and take a kill when you engage, cuz if you don't, they can poke you to death while you disengage.

If it's ranged vs ranged, the confidence thing is the only thing I can think of... that and the adc you pick. I can tell you right now, if you're playing Ez or Vayne, I'm sitting back so you can farm unless I see we can win a trade.

Yea, lots are just autofilled and smartly play safe. Others are (supp mains) just unsure of the matchup.

Yesterday, I played with a Xay (as Rakan). We were against a Vayne/Mao. Now I don't quite know his rework yet, AND I had one just the previous game that kept our bot in check with his saplings (the bad adc didn't help in that once).

SO, with Xay being free (so not knowing how this one is) and unsure about Mao, and since Rakan is quite weak until he gets his 3 main abilites....I played safe. I think the Vayne beat us in cs, but the team game exploded and we won (21-7 was the kill count....I was 1-0-11 myself).

Sometimes caution is the order of the day.

They are probably autofilled and rather than being pro active and trying to do their best, they rather be sitting ducks and lose the game, because they think they can blame autofill for that.

I don't mean let's be aggressive, just do the bare minimum: be in position to trade back if they come up, poke if they overextend. I'm actually quite content being passive, but the issue is that they are so out of position that the other duo can just do anything and get away with it. That's the opposite of safe, it's simply handing the other team cs advantage because of how unsafe it is.

As for the autofill thing: this happens in ranked too. So if they get autofilled into a position they don't play why don't they take responsibility and dodge like they are supposed to?

Going to assume this comment is a reaction to your last 2 ad losses with Janna sup. Janna supports in bronze are practically shield bots and you should change your play with that knowledge in mind.
