Does reporting really do anything?

Ok so freshly came from a ranked troll game. Top Nunu (troll) fed Teemo 8 0 in 8, 9 minutes. Jng Gragas (not troll at the beginning but after he also trolled) couldn't take any buffs because Tahm supp with smite (troll) followed him and took his jng. MId Syndra was doing her best and me on bot also trying hard but there was nothing really we could do. Tahm came into lane devoured me and threw me into the enemies I lost count how many times. Enemy Teemo harassing and belittling us in chat on top of all. So game ended, I reported Tahm for trolling, Nunu for trolling and Teemo for verbal abuse. A question now, this is my surely hundredth game with such composition, I always report after, and I have never ever seen any results of those reports... So what is the point of it all? Can a normal guy play a normal game with normal team mates? If you want I can give you their info, if you will actually do anything? "I can name fingers and point names" as good cpt Jack Sparrow said once.... Really you NEED to do something...

Reports actually help getting the abusive and trolling players banned.

If 948737 players report the trollers during the same hour they will get a 1 minute chat restriction

Makes you wonder though. I doubt the reports do much good because there seems to be a number of games threshold in which a person is reported. Trolling 1 in 10 games (or whatever number), will take a long time, if ever to actually result in any punishment. RIOT needs to set the bar higher to catch these people earlier. (This is speculation on my part based on other posts). RIOT?

Leave it to Teemo to really screw things up.

You only get a notification of them being banned if your report was the one that got them banned. So if your report was the first on that player, then you probably won't get a notification for it. But don't let that stop you from reporting people.
