Wonderful example of a broken feedback system

After a 10 Game Chat Restriction I got very quickly after a ranked game where our team's "support" trolled team and ruined the whole match, I submitted a ticket to get an explanation and find out what in my chat log was deemed an issue. Here's what I got back from Riot that was apparently "toxic" enough to warrant a restriction and slap to the absurdly awful grind out from Honor 1....

Like seriously, cursed at a teammate once for a bonehead decision and the rest of it was discussing the problem player here and there with team. The level of absurdity for THIS alone to get me a chat restriction is so far beyond asinine it's utterly flabbergasting.

TL:DR - Go fuck yourself Riot, you've gone so far to the "safe space" that you are punishing people with legitimate frustration and normal venting for the kind of situation that occurred and rewarding trolls with the ability to report even mildly angry chats and get their victims restricted over a single curse.

That wasn't even toxic. I snapped at Lux once for being a dummy and the rest was discussion among team about what was going wrong about the match. If I had flamed and ranted and cursed more than once, I would understand. This is Riot having a trash system and supporting it.

You consistently bring it back to Teemo and blame them for everything wrong in your match. You try to include Jax just because he is trying to get you to calm down and not tilt. He doesn't have to be someones duo to do that.

Did constantly "discussing" the problem actually accomplish anything? Your team was there, they can see Teemo too.

No one claims the system is perfect, but there also isn't a single punishment system that is I believe.

In addition, while this was an example provided, it also isn't the only game used to determine the punishment. For a 10 game chat restriction, you have probably shown a pattern of this type of behavior.

I have been bad in the past. I went from honorless to 1 and have been for the vast majority of games, normal. Maybe an angry jab here or there then focusing on playing, complementing teammates with gj when they outplay, most of my chat usually trying to suggest things like everyone building armor against an all ad comp, calling for objectives, to back off bad Baron starts, suggesting focus priorities for team fights.

Given the shaky game balance, the push to increase skin costs and devalue the reward chests, the very least Riot could do is have a system of punishment that makes sense, not penalize players for talking about what a troll has done to the match.

Yes, chat kept circling back to Teemo because he trolled three teammates with his actions, and not because I was the only one talking about him. Jax was suspicious because of how he kept trying to deflect discussion about Teemo. He wasn't trying to say anything to build the team up or make anything better, just enough times only when chat was about the troll.

Okay, we are moving forward, great. I want to focus on what you said at the end of your second paragraph, the "Should not be penalized for talking about what a troll has done to the match".

I feel this is important to establish some key things:

.1. Who gets to decide who a troll is? This is a big question because until it becomes blatantly obvious, we don't know who the trolls are.

.2. What criteria can we set to determine who is trolling? The problem with setting a clear list of what constitutes trolling is that people begin skimming the lines with more ease than they do now. The other problem is it can effect innocent players too.

.3. Do you expect Riot to turnover punishments issued when a troll is later confirmed? We need to remember that trolling usually take longer to detect, especially depending on often that account/player plays. I don't think many games do, certainly not CS:GO as far as I can tell. If someone trolls in GO by giving locations, sure you can kick them; but did you know you can suffer penalties from doing that too? My buddy got a comp ban for apparently kicking too many teammates. Even if someone asked him to or he voted for it.

I've had a discussion with someone before on what type of system could be used to make it better and really the only thing we got was " X reports (specifically trolling/int/griefing) over y games equals review." The exact numbers wouldn't be disclosed though.

Considering there was discussion by three players about one person trolling, it's not exactly hard to see who was a troll. And yes, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Riot should actually look at what spaghetti mess their system made and be able to see "oh, well, maybe he was a bit rude but clearly they were reacting and talking about a problem player" and lift a damn penalty. I'm quite irritated that their system sucks bad enough I got punished in the first place, and when the lines I posted were what the Rioter said got me punished and basically blamed me and said I should change what I do, that's fucked.

Sensitive? Maybe. Broken? Certainly not.

When it is so sensitive that a chat penalty is given for that, it's broken. When a support ticket suggests muting chat and "taking the high road" when there is no flaming, threats, or harassment, it is beyond broken. It's saying that you need to bend over and take the trolling up the ass because you aren't even allowed to talk with your team about what a troll is doing.

Depends.

I think trolling discussions are fine amongst the team. Accusations and harassment, not so much. It's a pretty fine line to tread on and gets crossed very easily.

That said, you didn't get punished for this 1 game alone. It sounds like you have a habit of crossing the fine line of harassing others, and the behavioral system took that into account when punishing you.

When the only evidence given for why I was punished is the above, then I can only assume I am only being punished for that game. As I said below, I've been nasty in the past but have changed a lot of patterns and was working my way upwards only to get this insult of a low blow. If Riot is so damn quick to jump and keep slapping punishments on people who are trying to change their chat patterns in spite of clear trolls ruining the experience for everyone, there is no reason to support this company whatsoever anymore.

Actually, if you read your reform card properly, it says that you are given Those games as recent examples of unacceptable behavior.

In fact You can send in a ticket to player support and ask them the number of games you've been validly reported in the past 3 months.

I didn't even get a proper reform card with examples from a chat log. I had to submit a support ticket to even get any chat log (all of what was responded to in the ticket was posted).

So tell me it's not broken with a straight face now.

It would show your reform card every time you log into the client.

If you've finished playing the 10 games restriction, then support ticket is the only way you get chatlogs.

lmao, I cursed once. I cracked a joke at how suspect Jax defending Teemo was. I pointed out even if a game goes "ok" it doesn't excuse trolling a team. I made note that Teemo was afk after I realized from the time I bought, walked to lane to try farming, and was killed before I could retreat, he was in the same spot when I spawned again. I wasn't venting abnormally. I was frustrated, I tried to play as best I could, but was so badly bullied by their bot lane I was worthless besides chatting with our jungler and mid about what the troll had done to the match. I cursed at Lux once. That's really abnormal, Captain America? I should watch my goshdarn language?
