There are some programs out there that run scripts for various tasks in league. The most simple example would be a champion combo script, such as a full spell rotation combo with Annie, or perhaps a QWQ combo with Zilean, allowing you to cast these faster than a human ever would. Another common script I hear about is one for dodging skillshots. It will detect an incoming skillshot, and automatically stop your champion, or divert them away from the skillshot, so it won't hit.

I played against an Ezreal once who teleported away from skillshots when his Flash and Arcane Shift (blink) were both down. He just disappeared on the spot for 1 second when it was incoming, then reappeared. Very weird...

Scripts are nowhere close to hacks. Calling them hacks gives them way too much credit.
