Question: How do I deal with teammates who suck in an appropriate way?

I have a huge problem with getting chat banned and 14 day suspensions for verbal abuse/negative attitude.

In my latest mishap I told a player, "Please just leave the game. If you don't wanna do that, at least slit your wrists so you have an excuse as to why you're playing so bad." . . Some context on this would be: They were playing quite bad.

. . . . I understand encouraging suicide is a big no-no in online gaming since, after all we're in the age of hurt feelings and (as the japanese say) Seppuku. . . . I'd like suggestions on how I can be, "less toxic" in games so I can play more often! Thanks in advance for the advice :)

Edit: I don't just join in to games saying, "kill yourself!" I find creative ways to tell people they're bad. Which yeah, i'm not defending it, but this also isn't a joke.

I've known a few toxic people in my League career and I've always told them all the same thing.

Unbind your enter key from chat. That way in the heat of the moment if you're tempted to say anything toxic, you literally can't. It's a self mute, and with how you're responding to your teammates, be it that they're bad, trolling or whatever, I think it may be for the best until you get in the habit of more positive/constructive criticisms.

If you can't control your hurtful urges, I suggest dragging the chat window completely off the screen. Out of sight, out of mind.

I feel you there dude, it's really hard to deal with people when they troll or say toxic shit. I wrote an entire post on this topic if you're interested. It talks about how not to get banned, and how to talk to teammates that do stupid stuff in order to get them to play smarter.

  1. mute 2. rely on yourself if you feel your team is unreliable 3. don't type at all and focus on game 4. offer advice or try to shot call a suggested play 5. if you feel overly upset try talking a break 6. don't play if you think your team is unreliable at start 6. dodging isn't the end of the world if your team is troll picking 7. think of how you are playing and see if youre part of the problem and correct it 8. try to assure your teammates their is a chance if early enough. 9. offer counter play tips if they dont know them. 10 its a game try to have fun while being competitive.

If you really must speak, say it in a VERY CREATIVE WAY.

Didn't pay attention to the map: YOU MUST BE LEE SIN SINCE YOU ARE BLIND Doesnt know how to ult: YOU MUST BE JAX SINCE YOU HAVE 3 FINGERS

dude, you are seriously, seriously on the edge here. you are litterly 1-2 mishaps away from a full, full perma-ban.

If you do not reform quickly, and make an effort now to do better: you will lose everything associated with your account. You can't be saying those things in game, if you get reported/banned for saying those things you deserve to be perma banned.

To be honest, you need to be on good behavior for the next several months and for the next several hundred games. If you aren't, you'll quickly be given the door.

You have to realize this or else.

More than anything else I recommend you take the game alot less serously and play without the chat system for awhile. Heck, If was you I would just /muteall everygame for a whole year.

Just remember, the entirety of your account/LoL personal investment is at stake.

Do yourself a favor and just mute everyone in chat.

In my latest mishap I told a player, "Please just leave the game. If you don't wanna do that, at least slit your wrists so you have an excuse as to why you're playing so bad."

Honestly, I stopped reading there. That's not a mishap. That's just utterly wrong.

So to answer your initial question (How do I deal with teammates...?), my answer is to fix your mindset. Because right now, its broken. If you think someone having bad game is worth telling them to kill themselves, you need a serious wakeup call.

Here's a suggested replacement:

You can't change what your teammates do. Nothing you do, nor say, nor beg, nor flame will EVER meaningfully impact what your teammates do. If you're lucky, you'll have no impact. Otherwise, you just make things worse. Therefore, don't try. Just do what you can do with the tools you are given, and play the best game you are able to.

If your teammates are bad, the matchmaking system will lower their rank. That's Riot's job, not yours.

This is a joke post right?

If they're not playing well, don't you think they know it? Telling them they're bad does nothing but make them feel like shit for it. What you can do if you're experienced in the role/champ they're playing is offer nice advice:

Hey eve, after the rework it's best to use your ult to dive them when they're low bc of the <30% health bonus damage

Hey trynd try not to go so hard even with your ult you still aren't invincible forever

Hey janna try to ult them back into us so we can kill them when they're low.

Things that are constructive criticism, but not phrased in a "lol u suck" kind of way.

Oh yeah, and you should probably figure out why you think telling people to kill themselves over a video game is an appropriate response to anything. And stop it.

You could always take your own advice. :)
