In-Game Chat bans for responding to harassment

I am personally offended by the targeting of the League of Legends punishment system. This is an extremely negative experience and is, at least what I once thought, the type of experience that the League of Legends community is trying to prevent.

I recently played a ranked game and was unfortunate enough to have 2 people on my team intentionally feed and sit afk in the base and tell the other team "it's open, end this". These two players also harassed me and told the other team in all chat that I was the problem. This made me angry, as it would any honest person who was trying to play the game. Unfortunately I responded to them. At the end of the game, the two reported me and told the other team to report me. I was targeted by harassment, and have now been punished by the system for responding.

Before you say, "that won't happen from just one game," One of the players from the previous game was in the next game as well and continued to harass me the entire game. He sent another report and here we are.

Thank you in advance for honest responses. Also, yes, I did swear. I'm not 12 years old and I live in the real world. If dropping the f bomb is a punishable offense, then I guess I didn't realize what has happened to this community over the years.

I don't think you should get a punishment to be honest, contact riot on riot games support and tell them the truth..

I'll give you some good luck :D

The bar is "ANY negativity is punishable".

I'm just the messenger.

You were toxic and negative. You admit this.

There is no exception to the rules because "he started it". Grow up and learn to report instead of retaliate.

Thank you to everyone for your input. This is an unfortunate byproduct of attempting to remove all negativity in a timely and efficient manner. Hopefully future versions of tribunal will continue to improve.

Youre wrong that it would make anyone angry. My face lights up when i see some entitled kid start flaming in chat. I just think of the look on their face when they inevitably get banned... because contrary to your belief, Riot actually does strive to prevent that situation. They ban people for it. So next time, just dont feed them with your salty chat rage, just rejoice that theyve fucked up so badly by putting their egotistical rage in chat. If your report doesnt get them punished, and they continue acting like that towards players, they will inevitably get banned and your report will contribute to that. Its a time for joy, not anger and hurt feelings. Someone is showing their true colors, revealing their douchey personality, and will eventually get bit in the ass.

Edit: oh and yes you can drop F bombs. I often ask honest questions (well... sarcastic questions that pertain to their problem) when someone starts flaming, just to act like I am taking them seriously. Something about not showing anger in the face of their anger is just so satisfying. So yes you can address the problem, as long as its not laced with insults.

A follow-up:

I do not respond to harassment and bullying by walking away. I address the issue head on and state facts to dissuade the aggressor from continuing to pursue their course of action. I am not here to be a victim. If defending myself is not allowed then I am deeply disappointed.
