"Comrade" does have communist undertones in western world ever since Russian Revolution, and therefore it could be offensive for someone. They might believe that the person using it claims that "me" is a communist and if they don't like the idea, it is offensive towards them. Since the OP is from EUNE, the general population might have stronger opinions about communists/russia than people in the other parts of the world. I (as another EUNE player) would not use that, since I try to be a polite person.
