Was being called a 'retard' by my own teammates

I was receiving a lot of needless hate in my last game because I like to play Shaco support, and my own teammate banned it to spite me, and then just spent the whole game with another player being rude and insulting to me, and calling me a retard and making jokes of that nature.

I work with actual kids and teens with developmental disabilities and hearing people using it like an insult like that particularly hurts, and I let them know in chat, but they kept up the insults and rudeness. I just came to vent that and I really hope that Riot won't allow verbal harassment like this to pass.

I genuinely believe calling people a 'retard' is a particular kind of hate speech and I just hope action is taken.

That kind of behavior is definitely punishable (though probably not treated the same as racial/homophobic slurs etc.) so just make sure you report it. As for telling them you work with disabled people, that's just making you a target and letting them know what kind of ammo to use; simply mute them instead.

I didn't tell them my work, but I just let them know that I take offense to it.

They are calling you a retard specifically to offend you, and you just confirmed that's an effective strategy. The fish is right, next time just mute them.

The team didn't tilt and we won the game, butI just believe in being clear and concise and calling out abuse and harassment when it happens. The chat log is an important tool for moderators to see and understand what exactly is going on. I've had success in confronting people in chat about their behaviour, or to the very least make them aware of their behaviour and attitude.

If the harassment persists, the chat log will make it all the more clear of their disregard for the TOS.
