Off Meta Supporting - Should I Be Worried?

GALACIUS Today at 04:41 First I would like to say good morning! I am a support player and some people call me a support main. I normally play on meta champions, but sometimes I don't and play Ahri, Jhin, Lissandra, and Ashe in the support role. There are times where I don't build a sight stone and time I do. I roam around lanes to see if I can help, but recently there's been a problem with a Singed Support player going off meta, roaming, and not building sightstone. I looked at the forum posts from Wuks and the community, but now I'm scared to even do my offmeta picks due to the possibility of getting reported and banned. I even had a game where my twitch adc complained about my Lissandra pick.

Can I have a stance on this and what exactly I can and can't do? As it is I find the meta to be boring and I want to "spread my wings" and help out other lanes too.

Thank you for your time.

That's my ticket I sent in to riot support. For those who know me I am Galacius in-game. I started in S5 and I have been a support/jungle main ever since. My MMR/Elo is Silver and ever since I started I just found the meta to be boring and unfun. Any time I play a game I play to entertain myself. With that being said, I have goon with off meta supports before and just yesterday I fought against a J4 adc lux sup vs. me as vayne and ivern sup. It's getting to the point now where I don't know what I can get away with as far as support goes. I mean... I am waiting for the game where I pick lissandra and my adc wants to report me b/c they read about the singed issue. I both agree and disagree that the community is overly toxic. Hell, I had a game where I thought someone was trolling and they thought I was trolling, but it turned out we both were wrong and wanted to help each other. We had our "toxic walls" up assuming that everybody in this game wants to troll you. My point is... I don't know what's going to happen in the future with the meta and I don't necessarily condone that Singed's actions (some of the things he does I like and others I don't), but I just want to play the game and have fun. Not be report farmed b/c someone dislikes my pick.

He didn't get banned for off-meta or such, he was banned for lack of helping his team out or even interacting with them, while limiting their resources so it was harder for them to get somewhere in the game.

This post was actually super helpful in me better understanding the singed's situation, I think it'll help you for context too^^ http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/ZIdZercE-singed-guy-is-getting-rightfully-penalized

Yes. You will be banned by weight of reports eventually.

As long as your not ruining the game for four other people you should be fine.

Singed support guy wasnt banned for playing off meta he was banned for ruining four other people's game over and over again despite warnings.

don't need to be worried about off meta. Need to worry about causing a negative environment, especially grey area cases such as the singed support as mentioned.

You should be fine as long as the off meta pick makes logical sense and you aren't trolling. Almost anything works in lower elos but not as well in higher elos. I say if it works well, more than 50% of the time, and you like it then play it. Though you might want to explain to the meta nazis why your off meta pick works.

You shouldn't be worried. No one has ever been banned for playing "off meta". No one. It's when your behavior isn't acceptable over and over in multiple games that actions taken. Playing an odd champion for the role isn't a problem. Causing your team to endure a 4v5 because you're doing things that specifically hurt the team and are generally accepted as harassment and troll behavior after multiple warnings to stop doing it is a problem. Playing Garen support or Ashe jungle isn't a problem (I've made both work) but trolling people and harassing their play isn't acceptable.

As others have said, the Singed player was banned for not communicating with his team when playing an off-meta role, not for playing Singed support. I play off-meta support all the time (well, I consider Vel'Koz to be off meta anyway) and my team's fine with it because I OK it with them first. It's all about communication. If your team doesn't mind Ashe/Ahri support then by all means, go ahead and play it.

ok. As somebody who has played a good chunk on the roster mid lane, the pick alone is not going to ban you. That I can say from personal experience. As long as you are actually playing support you won't get banned. I had a longer post ready but I am also posting on mobile. It really is the fucking worst isn't it
