I don't get why Riot only decides to moderate a toxic chat, instead of targeting toxic players.

So recently I saw this video that was put up a couple hours ago.

And it's just a guy being extremely toxic during a high level ranked game. Obviously imqtpie and dom aren't taking the game seriously, but apparently this went on for 8 or so games.

And the guy that's trolling them? He still isn't banned. This happened from a stream 5 days ago, and he still queued up for games from yesterday.

I have friends and have seen other people get banned permanently because they said a few explicit words in chat more than once in all chat, but people like this don't even get touched?

I don't know if this should go in Gameplay or this topic, but I just want to see Riot address this issue, because this isn't the only instance of a player trolling 4 other players in a live game and getting away with it, while other popular players, as well as several of my friends, getting banned for typing crap in chat like "ggez."

Detecting and verifying toxic language is a comparatively easy task, and as Leagues reputation was the most toxic community (not the most troll filled community) that project was started first. Natural Language Processing tools can be licensed from companies that have nothing to do with video games to help build it.

Detecting and verifying trolling is a completely different monster. Trolling is something that is unique to video games. What's more, it's unique per video game. The ways you troll someone on Minecraft are vastly different than how you troll someone on League, so there's no shared starting point. What's more, troll tactics change over time as I understand it, Disco Nunu being a fairly recent development. You've also got to contrast it with legitimate strategies that look similar to trolling, such as Proxy Singed. If following the Jungler around and taking camps from them was punishable then there'd be LCS top laners punished by this system.

So how in the world can you devise a system that's able to tell the difference between what's a troll and what's not? If you pass everything on to a Tribunal system it runs the risk of getting bogged down like the old one. You need some pretty top notch Machine Learning to identify commonly reported troll actions, some NLP to try and understand when the person started trolling, etc. It's not a simple problem, and no, "hire better programmers/throw more money at it" isn't the solution.

That said, some progress has been made. The was a post not to long ago where someone posted their chat logs that looked fine, yet they'd been banned. A Rioter came by and said that the ban was actually due to them trolling. There are a few scattered instances of that as the system is starting to come together. Riot's big thing is erroring on the side of not banning people rather than false banning people, which I think is understandable.

this is typical riot man. They moderate text. I get chat restriction for telling someone to quit running down mid into tower and dying and feeding ... over 15 deaths in 8 min. ridiculous... im told you shouldt type just mute and report.. there is no report for that and they dont look. It called intentianl f3eeding, but if they start playing and the get 4 kill its not called feeding and called a bad gaem... more riot bulshet

I don't see why comments that are pointing out that toxic players are going completely unharmed are getting votes down. I don't frequent this site in the slightest, but I don't understand that.

I don't see why picking a champion you like in a different role then normal is seen as 'troll'? I myself enjoy myself some Katarina support aswell sometimes there is nothing wrong with it.

I watched the video this morning and wondered if anyone would post anything about it. I think the biggest issue and failure on rito's part is evident when qt and dom don't even bother reporting the guy after the game and their attitude is "what's the point, nothing is going to change from another report." The community has no faith in rito's ability to punish people who ruin games like this because they have given us shit for clarity.

How can people seriously downvote this? Do you really want this type of person in your game?

Athene straight-up cheated during streams.

He was rewarded by Riot (Athene's unholy grail).

Riot believes celebrities are above the rules.
