Season six comes and I'm pretty excited to try and have a good time. Heck I even got to play a game with Phreak. Then things rapidly changed.

Lately, in my games (on three separate accounts), Ive noticed how utterly toxic the random players have become. To the point where I'm seriously thinking of giving up on the game and moving on and letting my friends know that I'm ready to try a new game. I started here back when there were only 20 champs to select from( alpha/beta of late 08 early 09). The players were pretty toxic back then but I feel that this is new. So I reported a few and upon looking, I feel nothing got done. They are still trashing on people, deliberately throwing games to get a rise out of players and generally being toxic.

Toxic tactics:

  1. Waiting during ranked and draft games till the last person has picked their champs. Then afk. This will occur half a dozen times from my experience. This is a waste of 30 minutes of time sitting...
  2. Using LoLNexus to find out who is in their promos. then making sure to lose the game.
  3. Getting paired with players who counter pick themselves into enemy champs (lux vs yasuo, yi vs mundo, varus vs leblank mid) Then proceed to threaten reporting other players for their failure to the point of making sure that the team fails. Even if we don't say anything negative.
  4. I had a group of four friends helping me out in ranked and things were going great. The games were incredibly fun. My faith in having a fun game was restored! When one of them dropped (bedtime) we got queued with one random. Mind you, my friends were fully aware of my frustration. Two games in a row, the random... deliberately fed then afked. Needless to say, my buds will not queue with me unless its 5 man. There is no point continuing on in ranked. Its rare that all five of us are on.

Ive switched between three accounts to see if it was just one account. Unfortunately, no. This is universal and consistent. This wasn't like this, for me, from season 3 through season 5. Ive tried muting the toxic players only to watch their actions speak what they couldn't type (like following and stealing jungle when I'm jungling during early game). Before anyone laughs at me, I was silver last season, am back in bronze 3. However I've seen my fair share of other silvers and even a few golds. I would figure that it isn't a bronze thing.

Any advice? I dunno... frustrated.

Alas, this is something Riot needs to fix. The only advice I can give you is to not retaliate in game or in chat so the trolls can't report you back after you take their bait.

Riot needs to admit they can't control this problem with their current measures and that they need to start devising some measures that can.

One of the new tactics, that I forgot to mention, is in the new champion select for draft and ranked... they ban the champ you select for the lulz. Ive learned to just pick braum or teemo to avoid it. But it clues me in that there will be yet another toxic troll on the team. I'm tempted to dodge the queue, but with the sheer frequency of how many there are, it would be more often than not and, thus, defeating the purpose of even trying to rank.

Mute button works half the time, however, Ive been reported for not communicating thanks to it. Never been punished. Also, like I said, they have escalated tactics to messing with me in game, following me around and stealing jungle and cs, with no intention of winning; just screwing with me.

I hate to sound whiny and I rarely post on these boards, but I've just hit a point where it's gotten so bad that I felt like I needed to say something in hopes that someone has some sound advice (mute is good and helpful, but like you said, not a silver bullet) or there can be some controls put in place to prevent players from doing this (for example, teammates being unable to ban your champion if you have selected it as your primary).

Another interesting one, though I've only encountered it once since the champion select changed, is the player who can ONLY play one role. They happen to not get that role but still pick for it anyways and declare to the whole team that they want that role or they will afk. Then, as promised, they first feed at least 3 times and then afk, and call objectives in all chat as we do them for the enemy team to act on. This is in ranked. This is ridiculous. Of course we all reported. Do I feel that it will do any good? Not really.

I do have a question: Whats with the sudden surge of crummy toxic players?

People have been coming back because of the new season, avoiding the pre-season. It's possible there'll be a new big ban wave soon.
