Riot bans you but lets people who say KYS keep playing

Just had a very rancid game where player threatened to leave game if I didnt gank. Then proceeds to tell me "KYS." I get very frustrated and talk back when I lose my cool. Throw in some cuss words, oh NO! He continues to say KYS over and over. When reports are in, I get punished but I'm pretty sure the guy is still playing. Thanks Tribunal, blind banning with no context to back it up. This automation is just sick. Like punishing people who kill in self defense. Very sick. FYI riot, KYS means kill yourself, and FYI means for your information.

How do you know they were not punished?

because I checked their OP.GG history and he was able to play another game afterwards.

Sometimes the system takes time to issue a punishment - it usually happens within 15 minutes but could take longer. Even 15 minutes is enough time to get into another queue.
You do not know if they received a chat restriction or if the system is waiting for more games to make a determination.
You very well could be misremembering what they said in game.

You're right, I very well can be fabricating the fact that he spammed KYS at me. Maybe he was talking to the other jungler on our team? Also can't imagine this to be someone's first offense if they go around throwing those kind of things liberally in chat. But who knows. To me, KYS is bannable on first offense. Way scarier to say something like that than any homophobic/racist comment. Kids have committed suicide for things like this.

If you report someone who has said "kys" twice or more often in a game, it gets picked up by the system and they get 14 day banned instantly.

It's automated and you just need to check around the boards here a little bit and see that it is working. If you don't believe it does, just go into your next game, write it twice, ask for a report and wait 15 minutes.

Anyways, the only thing you've highlighted here is that the acronym KYS is not considered extreme enough to ever be a 14 day ban or worse. Thanks, I will liberally throw that out there without risk of severe punishment in as many games as I can until riot learns its not acceptable.

Not toxic, just tired of people pulling this shit every single day for years on end. There is a search bar that can answer almost every question, because people only have three questions around here and they have been asked and answered repeatedly.

If you want to make a very poor assumption off of some words I didn't actually say be my guest, you losing your own will have no impact on me. My account is safe and sound behind my actual understanding of the punishment system and my ability to not act like an asshole when someone trolls or flames me.

Just to be clear, KYS and all other calls for self harm (listed in the flowchart under "suicide") are considered extreme toxicity, which is one of the most blatantly obvious things to anyone who takes a moment to think about it.

So what's the proper course of action here? Bitch about it on the boards and claim it doesn't work, or ask why it didn't work and try to find an answer?

I've had this exact conversation too many times by now, if you want to go down that path use the search bar.

I’ll tell you from my own time playing league. I was playing my Plat 5 smurf and I was feeling annoyed becuz I had expected players in my ranked games to be better and had a moment of stupidity overcome me. A guy told me to “KYS” so I called him a %%%, and told him to “KYS” that account was banned for 14 days. Mind I said KYS 1x and %%% 1x so idk what you’re talking bout but I’ve been banned. Thankfully that was a few years ago.

And now I don’t behave like that because it just doesn’t help

If I’m not toxic on my main I shouldn’t be toxic on my smurfs either. It was my fault for expecting so much. Not theirs for not living up to it.
