These chat bans are getting absurd. I just received a 25 game chat ban for the below info. Let me give a premise first:

Our top lane Teemo DC'd at 5 minutes and never came back. Our Mid Brand is cursing at everyone, throwing F bombs, and calling us all b*tches. Our Trist ADC is inting, admitting she's inting in chat, and her and Brand won't FF. Our Janna Supp was the only positive player on the team. I was Jung.

The "worst" things I said in the below are "damnit Brand" and when I call him out for being toxic which I said made him worse than the DC.

How in the world is this worthy of a 25 game chat ban??? And there's no appeal process. I miss the days where judgement was handed down by the Tribunal. At least then we were being judged by people and not algorithms. They could also see the other players comments and take those into account. I just don't get it. Are we just not allowed to talk any longer?

So me telling him he's worse than our DC for cursing at everyone should get a chat restriction? 25 games of chat restriction? I was trying to explain that his bad behavior was worse than the DC that made him so mad. Where in the summoner's code does it say you can't call for reports?

Yes, it is deserving. And calling for reports is a form of harassment. Play the game. 9 reports mean the same as 1 report, the system doesnt care.

I disagree that it's harassment, but that's a difference of opinion between the two of us. Doesn't calling for a report change the situation by potentially getting them punished, therefore creating the possibility they may reform?

This doesn't make sense to me. I've reported people in the past for excessive cursing or using hateful and racist language, and I haven't received feedback that anything happened. It's only when I've seen multiple people report someone that anything seems to be done about it. Is there a post where Riot says that it only takes one report to create punishment?

"Ganging up on" someone via reports doesn't do anything. 1 report is the same as 9. More reports does not increase the chance of a game being reviewed. All it takes is a single report.

I've done this before. Let me post the ACTUAL line of code:

if (reportCount > 0) { ... }

It's line 57 of this particular class. I wrote it.

It can feel like additional reports are more likely to cause a punishment because when the behavior is worse, more people report. When the behavior is worse, then they're also more likely to receive a punishment. It's completely unrelated with number of reports.

Harassment is defined by Merriam Webster as:

to annoy persistently OR

to create an unpleasant or hostile situation for especially by uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical conduct

Your chat fits both of those. You were annoying someone persistently, and furthermore you were creating a hostile situation with uninvited and unwelcome verbal conduct. Nobody wants to see you going around continually ragging on others, blaming, calling for them to be reported, etc.

So harassment, in this case, is subjective to the algorithm they use to punish players based on the reports received.

Your response seems to imply that I was just being toxic toward these people. I was telling Brand his actions were worse than the DC'd player because he was attacking other players verbally. Me telling people to FF when we have a 4v5, someone inting, and someone attacking other players does not seem incorrect to me. No one was having fun any longer.

But I see that it doesn't matter what anyone else was doing, only what I did in response. So the correct way to communicate in this game is clearly to not.

Sorry, but wrong, I have never trolled, never will, will never int, will never grief or try to ruin someone else's game. But I blow up in chat quite easily these days.

I'm not some spiteful kid who is going to tangibly ruin other people's games like that because I get mad in chat but can't anymore. Those people who do will be caught after the fact and be banned for that separate issue, I would hope. Doesn't mean the middle layer should be cut out completely. If we want to step back into the real life crime analysis on this, it's exactly like saying

"Well most convicts re-offend, so all crime should just land a life time in prison yeah? no chance of parole right? yep righto. That guy got caught selling weed a few times? yeah no different than the serial killer.

Every champion has their strengths and weaknesses. This line was not encouraging any teamwork, and it's insulting to the player who picked Teemo.

Then, after the Teemo had gone afk/dc, you singled out a different player:

Gragas Undressed: brand you're the worst player on the team. not only dying like crazy but talking trash. teemo is better than you.

The rest is general insults and discouraging chat. We've all played 4v5s; some are winnable, most aren't. You don't have to add to the terrible situation with this chat.

Thank you for the thought out and thorough response. The Teemo comment at the beginning was a joke and he knew it. We were talking about it in lobby.

I definitely called out Brand because he was cursing at everyone on the team. I felt that was uncalled for.

By the end I was disappointed because we had a DC, someone raging, and someone inting and we couldn't surrender because the rager and inter refused. So they were dragging out our bad time. I didn't have the option to AFK because that's a reportable offense.

I guess I don't see any way to have handled this better other than to just mute everyone which seems ridiculous because I'm still stuck in a game I no longer want to be in.

Still weak as shit to have a punishment for. The game's going to shit if this is enough to get someone punished. But trolls and such go unpunished.

Honestly they are out of hand. This game TAKES FOREVER TO GET A HONOR level and just like that, a couple feeding trolls can report you. Boom, banned even from a 10 game chat and you lose all of all your honor. Honestly, this penalty structure is straight Bullsh*t. Im not surprised more people leave this game every week. The people who run it are on cloud nine and have no logical real world execution on how people really are. Its like they live in this California "no one tilts" false mindset. The reality is there are more trolls in League than another game currently on market. You have to account for that in the bans. Im pretty much over this game. Now they want you to have lvl 2 honors for Clash and you cant even get that now. It doesnt even matter if you mute all anymore, people can legit report for anything especially if its a premade who love to gang up one people. Rito is run by people who have zero knowledge of the real world and what this game has become. They can stare at numbers and data all day, but the reality is, they are not looking at the overall community, which is largely lower ranking Bronze and Silver players who are the most toxic of any level. This "negative attitude" mentality excuse is what kills everything. You cannot be positive when you lose the game instantly. Some games are a loss, from the start, based on player skill, comp choice and overall temperament. If you want to use the "negative attitude" as your excuse all the time, go join the liberal tolerance band wagon lol. its ridiculous how immature and borderline pre-teen the logic of the LoL community is. People suck, thats the reality, and you need a system that accounts for it and really takes serious offenses into account and not random troll reports when its not even warranted. oh boo hoo "harassment" for playing bad and not listening to actual advice during game and getting tilted for being just bad lol Low elo players only care about DMG and KDA, nothing else. The system punishes based on consistency x severity.

This chat isn't severe, so I'd look at how often you would have such behavior.

Fyi, asking for reports is typically used for harassment and giving up is also a shunned upon in the community's eyes.

There really isn't a need to 9x report someone. 1 report is enough to flag the system to check for toxicity, the system returns the same answer whether there was 1 report or 9 reports.

They are out of hand. Sorry you have so many people coming in this thread and blindly siding with Riot. Rather than looking at the log for what it is, they are just TRYING TO FIND a reason of ANY kind to put the blame on you. Unless a Rioter comes in here and proves you are lying about something or hiding something, I am with you.

What probably ended up happening is that you said the word, "report" too much and that triggered the automated system. Usually saying a trigger word more than two or three times will do it.

No, because that will get you restrictions. It is pretty easy to not say anything and to have some self control. if you can't, you will continue to get restrictions.

I didn't say this offended me, or that I am overly sensitive. I was simply showing you what got you banned. I couldn't care less what people say in chat, because honestly, it is entertaining to me to watch someone get tilted over a video game. You signed an agreement with Riot to behave in a certain manner while on their servers. The other people in your game, the DC, inter, and flamer also signed the same agreement with Riot.

Them breaking their agreement doesn't invalidate yours. They certainly did break the terms they signed to. When that happens, the response you're expected to have is to report them at the end of the game. No insults in chat, no flame, no blame.

So, if you imagine that everyone else was playing perfectly, and a player unloaded all the chat lines like you did, would you think that they were out of line?

Would I report that person? Absolutely not. At worst I'd think it was mildly annoying. Unless someone is targeting me directly and saying things along the lines of "go f yourself and then die" I don't think anything of it.

The problem with your hypothetical is also that if everyone had been playing perfectly none of what I said would have happened as it was all in response. That's the problem I have with this system I guess. They expect you to just weather everyone else's storm and remain calm. Riot doesn't seem to care how you're effected by the other 4 players, only that you don't effect the other 4 players. Because in this situation, if we hadn't had a DC, and we hadn't had someone aggressively attacking people with foul language, and we hadn't had someone purposefully inting and laughing about it as they refuse to FF and end the game I wouldn't have made the responses I did.

That's not a problem with the hypothetical, it's the point.

Your agreement with Riot is not invalidated by anyone else's actions. So, anything that would be contrary to the agreement you signed, is contrary with the agreement you signed regardless of anyone else's actions.

That's the problem I have with this system I guess. They expect you to just weather everyone else's storm and remain calm. Riot doesn't seem to care how you're effected by the other 4 players, only that you don't effect the other 4 players.

You noticed that Riot punishes you when you negatively effect other players. That is a good place to start.

The two choices given that information are A) Riot specifically targets you or B) The system treats every account the same.

I choose B.

So, now that B has been chosen, you can extrapolate that anyone who negatively effects players, as much as, or more than you had in the past will eventually be punished.

Knowing that they will be punished now removes the desire to personally attack them in chat or via gameplay. They will be punished. You don't have to shoulder that burden.

To illustrate: Imagine driving along the highway. There's an accident ahead, so you slow down. Then, some rat-bastard tailgates you, passes you while flipping you off, and then stomps on his breaks right in front of you. It'd be understandable to be upset at them. Some people could react with rolling down their window and yelling at them, or tailgating them in return, or whatever. It's not a good reaction, but I've seen people do that.

Those people are trying to express their anger, and give a little bit of vengeance. That's like the people who belittle or harass people in response to perceived slights in game.

Now, same scenario, but there's a cop car right next to you. When the offending car pulls their shit, no one is going to overreact, because there's a cop right there.

The cop will issue the punishment to them. If you pull some revenge using any of the above methods, you'll also be punished.

When you get a license to drive, you're signing an agreement with the government to behave in a certain manner while on their roads. Other people's infractions don't invalidate your agreement.

So, in game, when people are being dicks to each other or to you, think about a cop car sitting right next to you. In this game, using the report button at the end game screen summons one instantly.

agree with OP 100%...and the people arguing with you about it are the ones that turn players toxic...i will never understand why people brown-nose riot so hard. The things you said are VERY VERY minor and should not be bannable in ANY way at all. This game is headed down a path that only goody 2 shoes 10 year old kids will be allowed to play it.
