Hating Someone Who Has Proven That They "Troll" - Is It Wrong?

Over the past month playing League, i've encountered a great number of people which can generally be distinguished from the rest of the community members, because they hold the title of 'Troll' proudly. However frustrating this is, i'm always reminded to hold-my-tongue because of the threats that Riot Lyte announced as punishments for potential toxic behavior. That being said, we're not computers, we're humans - so we have a natural tendency to have emotions, and the most suitable emotion for meeting a troll is hatred. When i, and other, eventually come to a breaking point where we need to vent our frustration on the said troll, we find ourselves in outrage post game because of the 'negative attitude' report on our screen.

The Topic of this discussion is simple: should we be allowed by Riot Lyte to vent frustration on the trolls who deserve it - who no one wants in the community, riot member or not - and walk away free of any punishing reports sent by the troll.

To fully consider this argument, we should consider what actually dignifies a troll? It's not merely feeding - everyone has a crappy game every now and then It's not that they surrender @20 - normally there's a reason behind a surrender attempt So what is a troll? In all honesty, it's a matter of the viewer's (you - the non troll) ability to tolerate and understand the many challenging aspects of the game; someone may be very lenient of very harsh in judging if someone's a troll. However, through my experience, i've noticed the 1 thing that all trolls share - no matter how great the trolling they did: They just don't care about anyone. It's true, trolls troll people because they don't care about the other person's reception to their trolling behavior. Now not everything is trolling, trying a champion in an odd lane with a new build doesn't necessarily mean that they're a troll. But going for a zhonyas on a kalista jungle - something that has no reasonable explanation - could be considered troll. It's different because by doing something so retarded, the troll signifies to the rest of the team that they simply don't care. A troll will often take their priorities above all others, not giving in to surrender, not giving up to surrender, leaving games to go graduate from preschool, ect... In conclusion to this section, a troll simply doesn't care about anyone.

If you're a troll and you're reading this, go home, break your computer, and don't go out into the world. See how many people call/try to contact you (besides any potential job relations like your boss asking why you didn't come in to work). I can guarantee you, that if you're called a troll more then once a month, and you try this, no one's gonna check - mostly due to the fact that no one cares about you.

Returning to the main point of the article - is it wrong to hate someone who's a troll, and then vent your frustration about them onto them?

If you don't feel like reading, then the answer in short is 'no'

Explanation:

Everyone cares about something in their life, and you put care into even the smallest of things for certain reasons; You care to balance a fork on your finger so it doesn't fall. You care to not to bump into people in the subway (so you don't disturb them) You care so that you don't offend someone (that's why we don't say racist things) You care about your teammates in League so you don't AFK if you have a bad game, and you do your part in helping them

Trolls DONT CARE.

They have this amazing ability, and simply don't care about it - and completely neglect it. Having emotions, and caring about our surroundings is part of what makes us human. So by this logic, trolls - voluntarily neglecting that aspect - are in a way less then human. People who have no will to care for their impact on others is a degenerate.

When i say that they're degenerates, this differs from mental retardation - retards don't have a choice, trolls just don't choose correctly voluntarily.

That being said, under the premise that trolls are degenerates, why should we feel bad about making their day worse, when they do the same to us and deserve even less?

The community despises trolls, no one likes them, so why are we being punished for pushing them away from continuing to play?

In a personal opinion, i think that those with frequent reports - where the reporters have called the reported trolls - should not have the right to report others, and should eventually be stricken of their rights to PVP if their behavior does not improve.

It's inherently wrong not to hate someone for ruining your fun, but we should be able to make the lives of the troll equally as miserable if they intend on doing such hated actions.

These are my thoughts, i'll leave a poll below asking if or if not we should be punished for being rude to trolls. If you disagree please leave me with some insight into why in the comments below.

It's true that people naturally want to return hostility with more hostility, but that just causes more problems. The troll is probably getting off knowing he upset you, and perpetuating the argument makes you just as annoying to the other players as the troll is.

The mute function is a marvelous creation. If you have trouble ignoring toxic players, mute them before they push you to it.

Hating them is understandable I suppose(though I would say they are not worth that much thought). Unleashing it on them is not only useless but often counter productive. Getting a rise out of people is often times what they want in which case yelling at them is just feeding and encouraging them. They aren't trolling because no random person told them not too.

No one wants to deal with trolls, but people also don't want to deal with w/e garbage people are flinging at trolls either. They are already dealing with the troll just like you. The reports against people who are raging at trolls aren't just coming from the trolls.

I've found there are different kinds of trolls. Some "trolls" simply want to do something very non-meta because it's different and amuses them. Like Diana bot. And sometimes, if you play along and work with those trolls, you have really fun games. To me, there's a difference between "trolling 8D" and "TROLLING HAHAHAHAHA". The latter is the sort that instalocks and goes AFK as soon as the game starts. The one that dances at base while the nexus falls.

I've been guilty of chewing them out, but it never works. Lately I try my best to forget they exist. If they're not outright feeding, it's basically just a 4v5, and 4v5s can be won.

When you hate someone your the only one that loses. the person ( especially on an internet game, come on) has already forgotten you exist. so while they are doing what they would be doing, your thinking about how they made you unhappy, which will probably make you more unhappy. do yourself a favor and treat them as you would a robot or a piece of sheet metal.

There is never an excuse for being toxic.
