Honor System Improvement

I remember when the new honor system first started, everyone was really excited to climb the ranks to honor 5. I was one of those people, and I noticed that the general attitude in games improved since everyone was trying to be honorable.

I feel like that hype has pretty much died out and honor 5 is normal standard. People's attitudes are returning back to normal, and it's not that big of a deal to receive honors.

So I would like to propose a couple of changes / incentives to the honor program.

  1. Honor decay: Honor decays over time and must be earned back through new honors. Your honor progress would be a viewable number or progress bar, so you would know where you stand. This way only the most honorable people would be in the top tier, and it will be something to strive for.

  2. Honor rewards: Riot already has the honor capsule and key fragments thing going on, but the unpredictability has really put honor capsules in the back of my mind. I don't ever think about even getting one, and don't see it as an objective to try for. I've received three or more already, but they're very unpredictable. Instead maybe there should be certain goals to reach in order to get a capsule or other rewards. My idea is that new players will receive honor capsules for reaching a higher honor level for the first time (no doubling up after decay). Then people can get rewards for either getting an X number of total honors (counting party honors as 0.5 or less), or after being on an honor streak. Honor streaks could be receiving 5 honors in a row (idk how it would work for parties).

I think changing the honor capsules a bit would be beneficial. I would like to see chances of receiving emotes and Ward skins added to honor capsules since they are lower level prizes, but still desirable. There should also be a chance of receiving higher level skins.

I'd become more "honorable" if I knew requirements for levelling up in this obscure system.

The only transparent thing about it is that getting chat restrictions/bans resets Honor.

I agree I would also like to see more honor levels in the 2018 season.

Your honor will reset once the season begins and there will be progress tiers within each rank.

Hmmm. That's very interesting. I can't really say that it would influence me to be "more" honorable than I am now, because I haven't really changed how I play because of the honor systems (either the old one or the new one). But I do like the concept of honor decay. There is currently a Suggestion Thread over in the Dev corner that you might want to consider posting this in as well. (The first post has the posting guidelines on how to do it.)

I think you make a good point that the "new and shiny" has sort of worn off with the Honor 5. And even though it's all about to be jumbled up again with the pseudo-reset at the beginning of the new season, it really isn't that rare to encounter Honor 5 anymore. Heck, it's not that rare to encounter someone with Honor 5 here on the Player Behavior board talking about their 14 day suspension or their permaban. Which is a bit telling. I wonder how many of those players would still be Honor 5 if honor decay had kicked in.

You don't need honor decay to filter out the most honorable. Just look at the numbers and decide what % is worthy of what honor level.

When thinking about honor rewards, you need to consider abuse. One time achievements are ok. Honor streaks are bad.
