Why wait?

With the number of threads about 14-day and permabans, I just thought I would pose my own question: why did you wait to find out what you did wrong? Why did you not take the chat restrictions as a warning to check your behehavior?

Granted, there are a handful of cases in which the player's behavior is so reprehensible, the only responsible thing is to immediately jump to a ban.

But most people don't make that jump. I'd even wager most people take the chat restrictions as the warnings they are supposed to be and never bother posting to the boards.

At the 14-day level, you are considered on your last chance. At that point, you should have learned what the community has deemed acceptable behavior. At this point, it takes a lot of effort on your part to prove that your behavior has improved enough to drop a punishment tier. And, at that point, you have a lot of bad habits already in place that would need to change in order to show improvement. And that level is where we sometime advise the more extreme measures, such as /mute all or unbinding the enter key so you can keep playing.

Because like all the people that post they don't think "Stupid Annie REPORTED!" is toxic, in their mind they are just 'saying it how it is' and that the community needs 'thicker skins'. They'll go back to CSGO where they can call someone names and their only punishment is sometimes getting kicked out of a single match.

I got 14-day banned with no prior restrictions. Apparently, calling the people i was playing with "Codename: Queerboy" and "Captain Useless" was inappropriate>
