It is, and always has been.

Hey guys,

The term KYS is absolutely a punishable offense and here on the Boards we have no tolerance for it, not even in a joking manner. I've edited out an instance where it was used as a joke and know that this is not okay. Telling another person to harm or kill themselves is never permitted. If you see someone do so, please hit that report button or come let us know on the Discord. Same applies to in game -- if you see someone use that kind of terminology towards yourself or another player, hit that report button afterwards and be sure to type in the description what they did.

Thanks

Telling someone to inflict harm upon themselves or wishing that harm be inflicted upon them in any way shape or form IS a punishable offense.

if the target of your post only said it once then it's because they usually need to say it more than once in a game for the bot to react to it

What about people who mess up and say "kms." Draven

It is. 14 day ban.

I find it funny that the system can block swear words

e.g. "fuck you" => "**** you"

but when it comes to vaguely determinded acronyms they can't set "kys plz" =/> "***** plz"

I would like to think Riot hires engineers, but in this case I think it's a company who only employs triggered social scientists.

I get it, if you told someone to "Take a razor and slit your wrists until you pass out", you should probably get banned, or atleast a warning, but not being able to filter "kys" into "***" is fucking stupid.

The funny part is filtering "kys" would be too fucking easy.

Me and the friends I play with tell each other to "kys" or I would say "kms" as a joke. Saying it to someone with malicious intent is a different story. Everybody has a sense of humor and punishing people for talking a certain way with friends should not be a thing.

I definitely consider it to be abusive chat, and report it whenever it comes up. And I've gotten messages that players I've reported have been punished. Not exactly iron-clad proof that it gets punished, since I've made reports for other behaviours and the messages don't tell you which reports resulted in punishments.

Kind of beside the point that telling people to commit suicide is a downright evil thing to do, but here's some interesting trivia. The Terms of Use seem to suggest that League of Legends falls under California law, where "Every person who deliberately aids, or advises, or encourages another to commit suicide, is guilty of a felony." (California Penal Code Part 1, Title 10, 401) I certainly hope Riot punishes felonies.

I think the main issue, is context, when it comes to telling someone to kill/execute themselves. That, however, is usually easy to notice. Sometimes.

For example, my adc managed to escape the enemy, but is stuck in enemy territory. They've been out of combat long enough for a death by a tower/minion to be an execute. So someone says "kill yourself, run under tower so they can't get the gold", that's not offensive. But people actually get mad over it because they read the 'kill yourself' and suddenly that's all they can see from that sentence. But that's not them actually being assholes, that's them trying to help you keep your streak.

If it's just "kys" then it's punishable, and usually if after they say "to the tower" but no one is even in any predicament to execute themselves, then it's hate speech. Such as my adc and I being under our tower/just getting back into lane, and we get told to kill ourselves because enemy supp/adc ganked mid.

Note that I'm not promoting saying it, it IS punishable for the FIRST TIME it is said. FIRST TIME. You do not get a second chance at all, even if you only say it once in one game. You will get a 14 day ban. I'm just pointing out that sometimes there is a LEGIT reason to say it, and that is not always seen.

Also, saying "kms/kill myself" is also hate speech and reportable. It's them talking about self harm to themself.

While Necromancy may be handy (and sometimes needed) in media, it's not the case for old forum threads. Please avoid using such magic and be mindful of how old threads are before posting.
