Add option to disable pings, at least for ranked solo.

We recently got the option to disable chat which I thought I loved for a second and then I realized I still have to deal with ping spamming.

Players are irresponsible. The times pings are used for their actual purpose is so rare that it's pointless.

Playing solo I have to deal with different people each game. If I say I will mute whoever starts the pointless pinging I end up muting everyone one by one. Their are like sheep. If one sheep falls off a cliff then the rest will follow.

I would like to have the option to disable ally pings just like the recent option to disable ally chat. Players that are frustrated over the game are using the chat and the pings to show their frustration. This happens a lot in ranked games at least in EUNE. I believe chat and pings should be treated just like the voice communication, only for pre made groups. If there are reasons that voice chat is not eligible for solo players then the same reasons should apply for text messages and ping system.

Another point I have is that chat and pings are not helping anyone learn the game. Yeah sure they can help win some matches but in solo ranked I am not going to play with the same people so I can't expect the same from everyone. If I don't use full mute I pick up the habit of paying attention to pings and chat but it's really counter productive when there is a 40-50% loss rate an no one likes to lose. If I use full mute I pick up the habit of looking on the map and open the tab menu frequently and improve my decision making because I don't expect anything from my team.

Another point is that the game would be much more enjoyable without pings and chat at least for solo players without having to deal with the emotions of strangers every other game especially in competitive where one death can mean that it's time to pack it up, open a lane and stack six tears.

/fullmute "summoner name" Will mute all text and pings from a player for the duration of your current game session. /fullmute all Will mute all text and pings from all players for the duration of your current game session.

I guess its working. I never tried.

I'm going to address this super quick before getting into the meat of things, but let's make one thing clear;

And every answer is from players that don't play ranked. Accounts only with urf, aram and bot games. If you don't play ranked why do you even participate in a discussion about something you avoid actively yourself?

People don't have to play Ranked to have valid opinions. People don't have to play Ranked to know what competition is like. So if you're going to have your arguments resolve to "your opinion only matters if you play Ranked", then you can take that argument straight out the door, because there's no discussion to be had if that's your ultimatum.

Find me someone who thinks disable chat is wrong...

Right here. I've personally disagreed with both the idea and the implementation of it for the longest time. League of Legends is a team game, and consequently, communication is a big necessity to ensure a win. To that end, I've always personally spoken against the idea of allowing players to fully disable chat, as chat is a really big part of League, both in terms of gameplay communication and general chatter.

Back before Disable Allied Chat was implemented, many, many players threw up the idea of having a self-mute feature to disable themselves from communicating; their biggest reason, of course, being that they felt it would help reduce toxicity if players could mute themselves. I disagree with that immensely, since for that to work, it requires a toxic player to be consciously aware of their own toxicity, which is a pretty rare trait so far as I've seen.

And, of course, it harms communication. Not being able to use chat means you can't outline more complex strategies that can't be handled through pings, but, regardless, the prevailing argument is that "chat isn't necessary, pings are enough".

I can't remember if I ever said as much on the Boards, but I know that I definitely called that this same-such scenario would doubtlessly follow. If you give a mouse a cookie, he'll ask for some milk. In this case, if you give players the ability to disable allied chat, they'll ask for the ability to disable pings, too. And it's pretty ironic that it'd come to this, when again, the players who advocated for a self-mute would always put forward that "pings are sufficient for communication", and now we're coming to the point where players are asking for that to be thrown away, too.

To me, Disable Allied Chat is a bad feature. Granted, it's only my opinion, and at the end of the day it may well be serving its purpose better than I expect of it, but whether it's the theoretical flaw of hinging its effectiveness on player self-awareness, the potential hindrance of reform it places by allowing players an easy way out, or the slippery slope that it teeters on the edge of where it practically asks for more communication features to be erroneously trimmed away by the playerbase, I think the Disable Allied Chat feature is wrong.

I didn't hear I single valid reason on why we shouldn't be able to hide pings.

And you didn't give a valid reason why you should, either. Let's look at what your reasoning was;

Players are irresponsible. The times pings are used for their actual purpose is so rare that it's pointless.

Playing solo I have to deal with different people each game. If I say I will mute whoever starts the pointless pinging I end up muting everyone one by one. Their are like sheep. If one sheep falls off a cliff then the rest will follow.

...

Players that are frustrated over the game are using the chat and the pings to show their frustration.

So some people ping-spam. As hyperion3182 and Imperial Pandaa mentioned, you can fullmute players or manually mute their pings through the scoreboard.

A few people misusing the feature isn't good cause to give players the ability to block it out wholesale. Especially when, as I said above, communication is a big part of League.

I believe chat and pings should be treated just like the voice communication, only for pre made groups. If there are reasons that voice chat is not eligible for solo players then the same reasons should apply for text messages and ping system.

You may want to take a step back and consider why voice chat is opt-in for premades instead of readily trying to apply the same standard to all forms of communication. Voice chat is premade-only for a small handful of reasons; it's (as far as I know) generally unmoderated, being in a premade comes with the expectation of knowing each other, and people do not want voice chat with randoms in the event of running into, what I'll generously describe as the "Call of Duty" experience.

I.E, getting flamed and harassed by any random person at any volume with any quality of microphone, amongst a dozen other different variables.

Voice chat is meant for players who want to take their teamplay further with more reliable comms. Pings and chat are there for general-use communications.

This whole paragraph is subjective. Just because you play better with pings muted doesn't mean everyone else will. I, for instance, tend to pay attention to pings, since more often than not, I've experienced players who will use them correctly, even if not in a reliably timely manner.

And, again, if your experience is that you play better with pings muted, just fullmute all at the start of the match.

Another point is that the game would be much more enjoyable without pings and chat at least for solo players...

And again, this is subjective. It may be more enjoyable for you without pings, but there are many people who differ from you.

I'm a solo player, and I find the game much more enjoyable when players are actively using the communication tools. Does my opinion matter, or is yours the universal solo-player truth?

You thing ranked solo is a teamwork mode?

Solo/Duo Queue is as much of a teamwork mode as Flex 5's. You're not playing 1v1, it's 5v5, and you're playing with 3-4 other people who are all on the same team as you. So yes, Solo/Duo Queue is a teamwork mode.
