Toxicity, Why this community is so bad, and why it will stay that way

After many many years of gaming, being a part of many online gaming communities since online gaming was a thing, this game is by far the most toxic i have ever seen, and I know exactly why, agree or disagree, this is the reason, plain and simple. This is the only game i have ever played that punished victims of harassment along with the people doing the harassment. I'll provide an example below

Example Brandon is playing a game of league, Brandon is always a decent player, he is never toxic or rude... sometimes he gets tilted and it shows in his playstyle but he never says anything about it.. Unfortunately Brandon is in a game with Mr. Troll on his 600th smurf account and Mr. Troll knows how the system works and has become a professional ban baiter (Only present in this game due to how the punishment system works). Mr. Troll has already said something he knows his 600th smurf is getting reported for so he takes this opportunity to ban bait Brandon who is tilting a bit from this match. For the sake of making my point more clear, lets say Brandon is gay in real life, and had to deal with harassment and verbal abuse growing up due to this, Mr. Troll doesnt know this however. Mr. Troll just happens to use the right words on Brandon, Mr. Troll calls Brandon a fa**ot... Brandon keeps his composure however to relieve SOME steam Brandon says to Mr. Troll "Thanks, Now im reporting you, Please report this homophobe guys, thanks." Suddenly due to riots unfathomable rules on this Brandon is now suddenly the harasser for asking ppl to report Mr. Troll. Mr. Troll knows this, now Mr. Troll will report Brandon since all it takes is 1 report and Brandon will now be punished along with Mr. Troll... Mr. Troll wins, Brandon now has a smear on his account for nothing, or possibly a Ban. Brandon was never toxic, but he was now treated unfairly and lost all his hard work due to something completely stupid.... Brandon has nothing to lose now, he makes a new account with no money invested in it and now sees how the system works... A once good player who did nothing wrong will now have nothing to lose and will do the same thing to someone who pisses him off that Mr. Troll did to him.. the cycle repeats.

Never have I seen a gaming company punish the victims of abuse or harassment like Riot does. Never have I seen a community so toxic in in game before.... If the trolls couldn't ban bait people what reason would they have to troll if they knew they couldn't take someone or multiple people down with them?

It's not like this in every moba, I play SMITE way more than i have played league, in SMITE you HAVE to be a racist, homophobe or severly harassing to get banned, not ONCE in my 6 years of playing smite have I seen a single intentional feeder because there is no way that is going to satisfy Mr. Troll because he cant bait people into getting themselves banned by doing this.... There are still toxic people, and always will be, however since those people have a nearly impossible task of baiting others into a ban like they can on this game, you see is FAR less in SMITE.

The problem with this game is how easy it is to get punished even when you DID or SAID nothing wrong. You can simply cycle through your 4 tier punishments by saying "Report nunu" then the Mr. Troll nunu reports you for saying it, even if you did nothing.

Riot needs to stop punishing people for quite literally nothing and over time i guarantee the toxicity in this community will drop drastically. Once the trolls see that they can no longer ban bait good people and ruin everything for them... what reason do they have to troll? After a few attempts of no success it may click that they should stop.

You could argue "Mute them"... In order to mute them, you have to first read what they said. Brandon was just called a fa**ot, a word he had to deal with all his life and is now old enough to defend himself, however he kept his composure and simply asked his team to report the homophobe. but this gets Brandon punished as well due to riots senseless rule. Same would apply to racism, someone has had to deal with that all their life, they may even go as far as telling this person to "stfu" or "You're a garbage human being. You need to seek help" 2 simple things, both true, both deserving, however now Brandon is the toxic person according to riot and as long as the homophobe troll reports him, guess who really wins? Brandon, whos on his main account he spent all his time, effort and money in? or Mr. Troll who knew what he was doing and couldn't give less of a fk about smurf #600....

Riot... Stop being so harsh on victims. I promise you over time you'll notice a difference.

EDIT - Adding this in to make a point

{quoted}

Brandon example: Riot recently explained some things about report calling. System only punishes players who do it all the time.

Given the sheer number of toxic trolls in this community, EVERY game or at worst 8/10 someone is toxic/racist/ trying to ban bait people. For some telling your team to report the troll is a natural responce, and may even prevent them from saying something far worse. It should'nt be a punishable offense UNLESS the persons saying it without cause, like if someone did something stupid or made a bad play, then you start doing it. sure. but NOT if you say it when someones racist, homophobic, afk, inting etc. For some the act of saying it in these situations could very well be the stress reducer needed from causing them to rage.

Example: Player 1: Made a stupid play got myself killed Player 2: Guys, please report player 1....

This isnt really ok, player 1 didnt actually DO something to deserve the calling for a report

Player 1: Hey, you filthy ni**er Player 2: Guys, report this racist

100% Justified in calling for a report EVEN if it doesnt do anything with multiple reports, the person saying this may just need to say it to prevent himself from blowing up on this person who HAD to read what was said before having the knowledge of who player 1 is to mute him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=440VEoGMq0I As you can see around 7:30 in, pink ward (A popular streamer) says things retaliating against someone calling him useless... is he muted/banned? No.

Youtube a streamer known as Nicktron and just watch his games... watch his chat... is he banned? No.

TELLING a racist you are reporting them SHOULD NO give the racist the upper hand allowing them to report u and successfully ban bait you for that. That is THE flaw in your system riot.

You do realize you are no longer a victim if you fight back right?. Its like the old saying "He started it". It doesn't matter cause at the end both of them were aggressive.

Just stating how Riot's policy's work.

Please provide evidence of even one case where a person was permanently banned and their only violation was "report begging".

Once again darkloon, provide evidence of a player permed and their only offense was report calling. I am not sure why people are entertaining your hypothetical situation as if it 1) Has ever happened 2) Answers the question of why league is so toxic.

Edit: I see you responded with find the evidence yourself.

And you're getting downvoted (probably me as well lol) because the angry butthurts got busted. Anyway, upvoted to balance the points.

I'm not grasping the point that you used a very specific example where a player ONLY report begs and then you imply a perm ban (you mention loss of money, account,etc.). I ask for evidence. How am I missing the point? You say you are on your second chat ban, and seem to say it is only for report begging...... ... .. .... why didn't you stop after the first one if you knew that was bannabe and that was all you got hit for? Likewise, how would a perm ban for that (which would be your 4th warning) be Riot's fault?

PresBushDid7115/23/2017, 5:18:44 PM2 votes

You are the one making the argument, I use to work tribunal and I lurk this forum. I have yet to see a card presented that ONLY had report begging.

Sarutobi5/23/2017, 5:06:00 PM2 votes

But that isnt how the report system works. If you only ask for reports once and use it in the intended way (as per your example) this person wouldnt get punished. Unless you have evidence of someone getting ban like in your example. You really shouldnt strawman especially like this. We need a system that works quicker than the one we have now, but living in this make-believe world like your example isnt helping the situation.

It would be like if Brandon kept spamming please report, typing in chat like He called me a "***". That would lead him to get punished because he is also breaking the rules. First of all Brandon would have known what the rules are. He would know what this person is trying to do and because of that would either one: know how the system works as well and just mute the person, report and leave a detailed explanation about what happen, or just asked once and leave it at that.

I've never made a post with the context in this post, nor any examples in this post, ive literally posted on this forum maybe 3 times. I think you're confusing me with someone else.

PresBushDid7115/23/2017, 5:26:25 PM1 votes

You original post mentions losing their account, money spent on it, etc which would point to a perm ban. You have listed chat bans, in one case the person repeated the slur. If someone uses a slur, I mute them, I don't need another player using it too. I am honestly perplexed how one even gets a chat ban. I think I can be rather toxic and have had no warnings/bans. Hell, I still have my goofy green ribbon.

DarkLooN5/23/2017, 5:37:55 PM1 votes

You just arent grasping the point. So far I've gotten muted twice, both for doing exactly what this post is about. next 2 times are 14 day and perm ban. I wont be the first ace, or the last. The systems flawed and it needs to change, its that simple.

I see... no evidence, not unexpected.

FYI: My name is a carry over from the mmorpg Aion, the Azmodians (the race I picked) were always bitching because the other race had more people and thus had an advantage in PvP events. So whenever people spammed chat with that crap I would just put an arrow pointing to my name.

Why the repost?

Yea this system is brokem. I just had a game (the game where I got chat restricted) where top and bot lanes fed on purpose, but they made it "Look" like they were trying. at the end, they got enough kill to look like they were outplayed all game. How, i have no idea. Anyway, that kinda set me off, at which case I let a few choice words go. What really got me tho when the three decided to elave the base ungaurded, and just went afk in the jungle to let the enemy team win, at the last second, I said the three letter F word that means gay guy. Yea, not my brightest moment, but when you have shitty games where trolls just troll, its beyond saving yourself sometime.
