Question about ban material

Hey guys,

I've been playing for 5 years or so. I've seen it all, regarding behavior, toxicity. Death threats, insults about my mother, extreme racism, people wishing my all family to get cancer, and so on.

A friend of mine got banned yesterday, for "high levels of toxicity", and attached to the ban was this chat log : > Partida 1 > m*: HF ladies! > m*: :3 > m*: YOU ARE NOT. > m*: you're a girl or a %%%%%%. > m*: PERIOD. > m*: i am a %%%%%%... you pick your role. > m*: SEXY > m*: i still need a hug > m*: soooooory :P > m*: she died. > m*: i died too > m*: not workin > m*: g > m*: i am a coward.

Here it is. This is, apparently, **permaban material ** and I really don't get it.

Could someone explain to me what's been seen as so offensive here ? I'm not looking for an appeal nor anything to reverse the ban here. But I do not understand, looking at the community rules, how this chat log fits the bill.

Is it the word %%%%%%? Coming from a self-declared %%%%%%, can we deem it offensive? I mean... I'm thinking about the word "%%%%%" here, as the black community often uses it but it's, somehow, forbidden for other skin tones & types. Also, I'm often saying stuff like "I'm deffo retarded" : would that be offensive? Is the word in and of itself the problem?

I really can't tell what was at play here. And as far as I'm concerned, clarification would probably help me to better fit the "nice community member role", because I must say I've been more than once more offensive than what's stated in this chat log, and got no ban thus far... Are we switching gears ? Has the system became harsher? Anyway.

The censored material falls under the zero-tolerance policy. Hate speech, racist comments, death threats and the like all fall under it and receive a 2-week ban as the first punishment as you shouldn't need a warning to know that it doesn't belong here. If he got a permaban then most likely he already had a prior punishment and this pushed him over the line. If he would like to appeal his ban then he should file a Support Ticket asking in a respectful manner if they can get unbanned, but if you ask me I don't see them getting unbanned.

OK, so that was indeed the use of that censored word that pushed him over the line. Do you happen to have a list of those forbidden words? For me, "%%%%%%" isn't really insulting. It's, surely, borderline, but I don't find it worse than "retard" or "you piece of shit", or "i hope your fat momma dies", or "CANCER CANCER". Which seem to be very fine by the current standards since I've been reporting those for years, to no avail. Can I can some structure here? The Forbidden Checklist ?

There is no hard-defined blacklist because trolls and jerks would just skirt around them to say a variation/different spelling of the word without saying the actual word itself to try to avoid being punished for it, and really all you need is some common sense and basic decency to know what is and isn't allowed. From Ulanopo's Knowledge Base:

“The Summoner’s Code is too nebulous. I need to know what I can’t say.”

Riot is never going to tell you because people will use that information to skirt the edge of impropriety. Here’s a simple list of things that will almost always get you punished:

  • Criticizing anyone’s skill.
  • Any racist, homophobic, sexist or ethnic slur.
  • Spamming. (A good rule of thumb is never say anything more than twice.)
  • Asking for reports.
  • Threatening, blackmailing or bullying your team in any way. This specifically includes any reference to going AFK, feeding or aiding the enemy.
  • Anything that could be construed as you not doing your best (“I’m not helping bot any more!”, for example).
  • Whining, especially if it’s about your team not surrendering.

Basically, you should avoid anything you would not say at the funeral of a loved one or during the interview for your dream job.

You may not be particularly offended by it but it's generally considered to be an offensive term by many due to the negative connotation/history associated with it, hence the harsher stance on it. Also, if you look through PB you'll see many cases of people getting banned for zero-tolerance policy behaviors, case in point your friend.

That's a bummer. Since most of this community comes from different parts of europe, and we all kinda agreed on speaking english to be able to communicate, I can only understand that not everyone is equal against the system.

When going to google translate and looking for the french expression "pédé", which is a commonly accepted word, if again badly connotated, it offers "%%%" as the answer. For some reason, it's more insulting in english than in french. So I cannot agree on your "comon sense" way of classifying this.

I guess that's my case against it, after all. No-one is supposed to ignore the law, but there's no strong structure. And with varying backgrounds, cultures, and languages, the lines blur a little more. I just find it unfair, in this context. I'd find it unfair for anyone, really. Especially considering that it wasn't even said towards somebody, but in a general manner.

Anyway. Here goes the best support i've ever played with, and a lvl 5 honor player.
