Tribunal Rework

Upgrading the Tribunal | League of Legends

Four years ago, Riot Lyte wrote the linked post regarding the Tribunal, and how it would be going through an upgrade. Recently this year, Riot was asked about the return of the Tribunal, to which they stated it's not coming back any time soon. The reasons they gave were that: 1, The Tribunal was wildly inaccurate due to players voting all guilty for the sake of IP rewards; and 2, the Tribunal took too long to dish out punishments.

While both of these are fair points, it still doesn't change the fact that to this day players can get away with griefing as long as they don't type in chat and they don't make it obvious on the scoreboard (and kill/death map) that they ran it down. Out of the 10 games I played across 2 accounts, 5 of them had people who flat out said in chat they didn't care about the game anymore, and they were just going to feed. Even with evidence as damning as that I'm still not convinced that the person who read my report handed out a punishment.

You can't even make the argument that players shouldn't be punished for a first offense. If you type anything racist, sexist, etc you get banned immediately, so it's clear Riot doesn't believe in a slap on the wrist. It would be so simple to add what is essentially CSGO's overwatch system and allow the community to once again judge toxic behavior.

It's 2018 Riot. Let's get with the times.

Actually curious about this, but are there any statistics about how well(and how) the vac ban system(csgo) works. Because I take it would walk into similar issues.

The tribunal at one point had a delay of 8 months before it was cancelled so I am curious how they would keep it current.

Also the grieving checking on the tribunal was really bad. Anybody with a negative score could get a ban from it.

Tribunal never punished for disruptive gameplay anyways.

Just because they don't tell you anything about punishing others in that regard, doesn't mean they don't do anything.

I'm kind of surprised there's not a bigger outcry for this kind of thing. And it's not like I had a single inter in a single game, I had several over the course of several games across two different ranked accounts (mid silver & mid gold) Some of my friends in plat and bronze have been experiencing the same problem. I kind of expected it to be normal behavior in bronze since you can't really go any lower but apparently it's really bad right now.

We came to the conclusion that for most players, because it's the end of the season, they really don't care about their rank as if preseason has already started. Riot really needs to have a no tolerance policy, even if it's just a ranked queue ban for a few hours (comparing to csgo's leave / abandon punishment

Sure, suggested it myself. You have me backing it up.

I feel like a lot of people are missing the point. I'm not asking for the 2014 Tribunal, I'm asking for an upgraded version that includes a replay. Even if it takes a while to come to a decision it's far better than what we have now. Besides, it doesn't take 6 months for CSGO Overwatch to make a decision.

This was quickly killed even back when Tribunal was alive. This is not the reason Tribunal was shut down nor will it be the reason Tribunal comes back.

I would love the original source where Rito said this is the reason Tribunal is not coming back "recently this year"

THIS is the primary reason why Tribunal is not coming back.

Tribunal has never deals with gameplay trolling or inting so not sure how it coming back would help. Now, before you want to add the feature for players to judge these cases, think of the #2 point on why Tribunal is not coming back. It took about 5-10 minutes to read a chatlog to judge a case in the old Tribunal (at least for me) and we have backlog more than a month old due to not having enough people judging cases. I don't think having people watch a 30+ average game to see gameplay troll or inting would be any better. And I can on fathom how many people report for "feeding" per day.

Racist, yes. It's called ZERO-TOLERANCE for a reason. Sexist... I'm not entirely sure you will get banned immediately unless you already have a high toxic account.

That's the link where riot said the tribunal isn't coming back.

As for your other points, it wouldn't be particularly difficult to assign a ranking to a player that consistently makes correct decisions in determining if a player trolled or griefed. Players who usually got it wrong could either be barred from participating anymore or their vote could mean less in the final verdict.

It also shouldn't be every single report, obviously. If a player receives more than X reports across X games (or X reports in a single game, assuming the reporters aren't queued) then the game would be brought up for evaluation.

Also on your last point, I don't really know why you felt the need to correct me on something that wasn't even incorrect in the first place. I was showing an example of how Riot has a zero tolerance policy for toxic chat and I think it should carry over into gameplay. Players often speak louder with their actions than their words.

I once got a 1300-game chat restriction from the tribunal. Got banned the day I finished my 1300th game lol

I really liked the tribunal system and actively judged for it. What I don't understand is how anyone can say that it was wildly inaccurate. I had 100% accuracy on my votes and took the time to carefully read through every chat log and look at build paths/scores. This means that every person I found to be innocent was majority voted to be innocent.

Re: IP Rewards--

It wasn't quite as big a problem as a lot of players assumed. And it became even less of one when Riot removed IP incentives.

The delay between offense and punishment was a far bigger problem and the primary reason for scrapping Tribunal. I don't remember anything about spam voting as even a minor reason.
