The Greatest Simplification of the 'Support Singed' Case Ever

President Swa1n·11/20/2016, 1:35:07 AM·12 votes·2,723 views

-Gets a role through this amazing system introduced in season 6. -Plays a different role that doesn't even exist officially exist, ignoring whether teammates are on board. -Gets banned.

Quite straightforward to be honest.

If someone gets top and repeatedly plays counter jungling duo mid instead, is that not bannable? You are assigned a role to play and cannot play another without the consent of your team. I fail to see how this is any different.

EDIT 1

Copied from a reply I gave to someone on this thread:

I evidently still haven't made myself clear enough.

Support on bot lane, as you said is only one way to play support.

However, when the VAST MAJORITY of people queue up for a game of League of Legends, do they just assume that their support won't necessarily be supporting the ADC?

No.

If this was the case, you would be hearing the ADC begging the support to stay bot in the champion select chat.

The point is, the five standard roles do not physically exist. They have come about as a result of widespread social expectation. And the problem with playing a different kind of role is not that it's inherently trolling.

It's that everyone, including the support themself knows what most people expect them to do and yet don't live up to those expectations.

WITHOUT, in this case, team approval.

And while I realize there is no way to queue up for an off-meta role, that is besides the point. If someone queues up for a role, that is an official declaration of conformity to the societal expectations of what having that role means. If one wishes then to play that role in a geographically unconventional way, one must inform and gain the approval of one's teammates.

THAT is the issue. The team needs to adjust their expectations for their game, but if the player playing a different role does not allow this to happen, it can most definitely be classified as trolling. ESPECIALLY since the player themself is the one queuing up for the role.

Now what should also be realized is that if we lived in a world without these societal boundaries, where no one automatically expects the support to go bot lane, where meta roles are generally fluid, this behavior would be beyond fine; it would be expected. That is a different discussion: whether or not we should move towards a world without these expectations. I personally believe we should, but we currently don't and we shouldn't pretend we do.

The problem is this involving the singed situation. He's essentially acting as a ROAMING support. If you remember anything about when Bard came out, Riot tried to force feed this ideology into us support mains to encourage diversity. You could even argue the season before last even the professionals were seen roaming with champs like Braum to assist the midlaner pick up kills; they did this in LCS games and sometimes it greatly benefited the team as a whole.

Singed taking smite to screw over the enemy jungler might be "toxic" but it's more so to the enemy than your own team. This guy blatantly states in pregame chat what it is he intends to do. That's no different than if a Braum were to say he's going to gank mid at lv3 after harassing the enemy jungler. See the problem is you all wouldn't complain about that or would be less likely to do so because they are playing a "traditional" support.

My issue with the entirety of this is Riot's response to the guy about picking out of meta champs and how that's toxic; however, that goes against their own terms and services. Mind you, over seas they pick non-traditional champs in off-the-wall roles and flourish against NA/EU because they don't know how to address or handle the situation. I remember when pre-re-work Yorick was jungling and they talked about this Korean player who was so good at it that the champ was banned constantly when he was in games; however, if that happened in NA we'd be bitching up a storm and demand riot ban them for good.

I am a support main and I've tried several champs in the support role for new experiences to test myself out and to breathe some new life into the role I use to enjoy playing. However, the role has nearly died and it doesn't nearly appeal to me like it use too because of people like yourself and granted a good portion of the people that report this guy solely because he's not playing something traditional. Then you have Riot wondering why no-one wants to que up as Support, but then they want to penalize and ban someone who will do so?

These are the champs I've tried as support.

Aatrox Not a fan, wouldn't recommend. When I did it I rocked Targon's and when I hit minions with the passive it accumulated the bloodwell. I'd argue maybe it's do-able, but it's not my thing.

Ahri I actually like this one a lot because she has good harass so Frost Queen is good and the mana regen is nice down the road. If you can land charms it can work really well. Just build AP like an AP traditional supports like Karma & Zyra.

Akali Tried it, didn't like it. Don't recommend it.

Alistar Obvious is obvious. However, something a lot of people don't do as far as I know. After getting Sight Stone, I like getting Trinity Force sometimes because of the sheen. It helps with the heal and if you add that with a ZZ-rot (Plus Ruby SS cooldown reduction) you can become a decent split pusher. Add a Banner of Command to that as well and you're a giant siege minion.

Amumu I liked this one a lot actually. I used it a lot when Kalista first came out because the combo is really good. I recommend getting Frost queen's not so much for the harass but for the mana regen and the AP. Then go into Tear of the Goddess or even ROA after SS for additional tankiness.

Anivia One of my favorites and especially if you can land the Q + E combo for the double damage. Her damage output is insane and a lot of ADC as well as squishy supports just underestimate your damage scaling. The wall is pretty good if you can time it with Vayne's, but I rely on the damage output. Also of course get Frostqueens, Tear of the Goddess, I still get Sightstone.

Annie Obvious is obvious. I've found it's better now on Annie support to have runes so you start with 10%Cdr in my opinion. Otherwise doesn't have the same feeling it once did.

Ashe I've done this one quite a few times actually. I mean her hawk is free vision. I recommend getting Ancient coin, don't take farm because you don't need it, and harass with W frequently. Get a Tear of the Goddess, + 45% Cdr, for 2 second w's for the damage and the constant slows.

AurelionSol I like getting Targon's on him because his passive can and will trigger the passive on Targons. So if you accidentally kill a creep no harm no foul. You get free poke with your w, you have a stun if you can use your Q right, but you have to play smart because against all in tanky supports like Leona and braum you'll have a bad time.

Azir Tried it, didn't like it. I'm not a fan of Azir to be honest either way.

Bard Obvious is obvious. Some people by now also know you can build Attack Speed on him and it can be great to do some good damage. Like Nashor's tooth for the AP and AS. Personally I like building him a bit tanker with traditional active support items.

Blitzcrank Obvious is obvious.

Brand Pretty common now. I'd argue how singed support is a problem but Brand isn't? Brand offers nothing other than damage, a stun, a series of spells that can take cs if done wrong. Did I mention it's easy for him to take kills? However, if it works it works.

Braum Obvious is obvious. Building attack speed on him can be fun as well, but again I like being super tanky.

Caitlyn Tried it for the LuLz and hated it. Don't do it, it's not a good idea.

Cassiopeia This is actually pretty good and especially so if you have a Twitch ADC or god forbid a Teemo Marksman. Her slow is pretty good as well and if you get Rylais it'll be annoying.

Chogath I like this one and you can do it in two different ways depending on the comp you have. Go full AP support if you're team has none or little or traditional Tank. Either way get Targon's for your ult so when you consume your adc still gets that gold and you get stacks.

Darius I've done this one before and it isn't that bad so long as the adc your with is okay with it. Got to play super Agro in my opinion and a good match up is Draven. Not just because they're brothers lol.

DrMundo I really like this one and it works pretty well. I'd argue its one of the few ways I consider Mundo any good any more or at least relevant. Granted there are still some amazing Mundo's just not at my Elo. Get Targon's for the Health Regen, get a sightstone, and go full tank. Pretty simple really and you become a wall for your adc.

Ekko This one is alright and can be done in two different ways. You can go tank or AP. Personally I'd argue getting spellthief for both personally for the mana regen to harass them with your slow.

Elise Tried it, and it can work, but I'm not very good with elise.

Ezreal I've tried it and personally it was some of the most fun I've ever had because I like to scream "WHO NEEDS A MAP" and stuff like an idiot. Get spellthief for the gold per second and mana regen. Get tear of the goddess. Then build him like Blue EZ to be annoying or go ap if you want.

Fiddlesticks Obvious is obvious.

Fiora Tried it, not my thing. I'm not good with Fiora.

Fizz Tried it, not really my thing but it's fun to me. Because I engage, say IN A SPLASH, then jump out while they laugh cause they can't hit me because of trickster.

Galio By far one of my favorites and how I got level 7 Galio. I'm a little worried about his upcoming rework. There are several ways you can play Galio in this role. 1) Full AP galio to blow people up and do tons of damage. 2) Full Tank Galio 3) Ultimate Siege Minion galio. First build is obvious, second should be to, but the third one consists of : Banner of Command, Ruby Sightstone, ZZ-rot, Ohmwrecker, Boots, and optional. Ruby SS with the 10% CDR on actives and the fact that ZZ and BOC give him AP based off of the MR is nice. Ohmwrecker is just a funny buy especially if you use it under enemy towers, flash ult them, and they're confused as to what happened.

Gangplank Old gangplank was better for support because of the Attack Speed he gave. I tried it with the new one, but I don't like it as much so I don't recommend it.

Gnar I'm still convinced that this can work. I haven't had much luck with trying to go tanky with him having Targon's and then going all health/resistances. I think it's better to go with Attack speed and maybe a frozen mallet or something so you get the damage with your W and slows.

Gragas Can be done in two ways, full ap but I like Tank Gragas more in this role. More engages and belly flops with less risk.

Heimerdinger You can do this with the cheese build people were doing top lane. Get a Ruby Sightstone, Banner of Command, and ZZ rot and just do the exact same thing. Your grenades act as slows/stuns if done right, and your lane is less likely to give tower first blood if you position your turrets correctly. (Vin-diagrams people let them intercept each other with one up front to quickly switch out when destroyed, and two behind it.)

Janna Obvious is obvious.

JarvanIV This one is fun and it plays similar to Leona in my opinion. Go tanky with Targon's, Start Q then E for engages and max out shield (W) afterwards.

Jayce Tried it, not a thing and don't attempt it guys lol. One of the worst mistakes of my life and I felt so bad even though I did more damage at the end of the game than my ADC. Just don't do it. We won btw, but I thanked my team for me being garbo.

Karma Obvious is obvious.

Karthus This one is pretty fun. Get spell thief obviously. I get Tear of the Goddess first back, then get Sightstone, and from there you can build what you want.

Katarina Tried it before the changes and it was bleh. Had harass but in a lane with lots of CC generally it's not a great idea in my opinion.

I was gonna do more but got cut off with how much they'll let me put lol. Needless to say, with Riot's new "policy" of what is acceptable I guess I'll be banned shortly too. BTW been a support main since Season 3.

He was a straight up troll.

It doesn't matter what character he played.

The problem is that based off of THAT logic AND the logic of Riot's take on the story, half of all supports in the community would be banned. Even if the player picks a meta support and buys sightstone, it is EXTREMELY common for the support to leave bot and never return. Even more so in lower elo. You will have ALOT of "support" players who play like this in every game. ESPECIALLY lower elo Bards. They practically do the same thing, just not nearly as helpful to the team overall which is the support's primary job.

Then THAT can be up for debate. Who is more useful to the team? all of the Bronze 5 Bards? Or is it the off-support Singed who managed to climb to Platinum at one point. Or what about all of the other Platinum and Gold support players who are not that good at all. The ones that "roam" or the ones that are quick to lose faith in the ADC.

You are wrong. THe singed support role existed before season 6. Double jugnle has been valid option from season 1 onward. Before the new draft, support used to be floating role. Duo top, duo jungle, even duo mid, or duo bottom. All valid.

The fact majority of players are so inexperienced they never learn this, is not fault of that singed. And why he did not communicate with team? Because teams has been constantly toxic at him from champion selection onward. But RIot is doing nothing to the way how supports are treated, but instead enforce the bullying attitude of adcs as norm.

The MMO player attitude, that all should go perfect or not at all is abundant. If you try to do it differently, you should be LCS pro or not to do it. I got this comment all the time. The sad fact is MMO players cannot see the big picture, but optimizes with limited situation. Usually main focus is your persona K/D or in better player case K/D/A. Due this they cannot see valid and best tactical options requiring one player to die for team. It is beyond their selfish way of thinking.,
