Involving police over a threat?

League of Legends Match History

I made a police report and they say they can't make promises to track this player who threaten to kill my family. The said player sounds very serious about killing my family and me. I do have url to the match but I can't find a chat log. Do you think that Riot Games will cooperate with police and give them the chat log?

Also, I am curious. Can players be tracked without their real names or address? That sounds hard... I personally think this threat should be taken seriously just like people take swatting seriously.

Riot will cooperate with police provided they are served with a warrant. You should contact Riot Support, who will forward it to their legal department to determine if Riot needs to proactively contact federal police given the logs of that user (potentially across multiple games).

And generally speaking, it's virtually impossible that if you release no information about yourself someone can find you. Keep in mind though that using the same name/username on other sites may connect bits and pieces of information about you across multiple websites.

well if the cops really thought it was worth going after they could submit a warrant to riot for that players info. however how would this person know who you are and your family ? let alone find you?

that person has as much info on you that you do on him.

It's important to remember that the threat would have to be considered credible before a PA would consider seeking a warrant.

Are you scared for your life or are you just looking for attention on the forums? If a person makes a threat, but have no way to carry it out, good luck on getting police to care.
