It's 2016, when does this stop?

After losing 4/6 games today to afks/trolls (feeding intentionally, sitting in base typing), I really have to ask: when are we getting the ability to just remake a game at any point? Why can it only be before 3 minutes and then we're basically screwed? Losing AND gaining mmr because of a disconnect is a horrible feeling and doesn't help anyone as players and ruins the point of the game. I've played 2000 games across the past two seasons to try and get to Diamond 5, and now that I'm here, I'm basically playing so that I don't get demoted (which isn't going so well when I get a bunch of afk's at 0 lp). These people are causing me to lose mmr at a rate I otherwise wouldn't be and it's completely unfair. When do we get to remake when someone leaves past 3 minutes? You're going to tell me that because of a situation I can't control I'm the bad player? There's no way to outplay a disconnect; we get condemned to lose lp/mmr. I'm playing the ladder to try and be a better player, but there's nothing I can do when my team stops playing and it kills motivation. Trolls are harder to deal with, but why should we have to lose a game when it's a 4v5? 5 always outscale 4 unless you've got a huge lead pre-20 minutes and can hope for a reconnect, and even then it's really difficult for the 4 to keep up. Why does Riot refuse to solve this issue? People can't abuse it if you don't give either team a win or a loss after the game -- then nobody could climb the ladder.

First, there is a distinction between MMR and LP. MMR is the rating that Riot gives you on how well you play, this is hidden from you. LP is just a representation of how well you are doing. The difference is significant, your MMR doesn't change much, your LP changes dramatically. This means that even though, God forbid, you drop down to Plat 3, you'll gain that LP back quickly because the LP system wants to get you in with people of similar skill level. Not to diminish your complaints, they are valid, but just thought you should know.

The problem is, balancing a punishment. This is especially problematic with no true solo queue. Let's play this scenario (which happens quite a bit): A Plat player and a Bronze player are friends. Because of their rank difference, the friends can't play ranked together. So the Plat player hops on their smurf in Silver. If the game starts going poorly, the Silver smurf just DC's at minute 19, forcing the team to surrender, and then the Bronze player doesn't lose any LP. While this could be remedied by forcing groups playing to collectively still taking a loss on LP, what happens when unforeseen circumstances happen? There is nothing anyone can do if the power suddenly goes out? Sometimes shit happens, there's nothing you can do about it.

I would propose that players that DC in a ranked game should take a significant LP loss, where the winners and losers of the 4v5 game take reduced loss/gain of LP, around half of what they would have received if the game was played by a full 5v5. I think those who are grouped with the person who DC's should take the full loss of LP, but if it is a win, they only receive half the LP they would have gained.

What sounds like what is happening to you, is you are a victim of "gate keepers" these are usually smurfs who keep people, like you (I'm not trying to be insulting I'm just saying what I've seen from experience) where your LP and MMR are reaching an equilibrium. This means that your LP gains are going to be smaller and this is, realistically, where you should be. That doesn't mean that you can't climb, but your climb will be slower. Gate Keepers will intentionally tank games to prevent players from climbing higher. This was a particular problem with Gross Gore.

Hope this helps.

Edit: trying to clarify my second paragaph. I'm tired and if my response doesn't make sense, please feel free to call me out on it. I'm extremely tired and my fingers can't type as fast as I want them to.

Yeah, I'm just gonna stop reading right there. If you're getting that many afk/troll players, then statistically the enemy team is too, so it all evens out. Just get used to it and wait for a 4v5 in your favor.

Sincerely, A Bronze 5 Survivor.
