A New way to look at Toxicity.

Why is the League community so against toxicity? Lets consider the benefits of toxic banter.

League of Legends is only fun if you are winning. Losing is not fun. Losing teams can entertain each other via toxicity. Losing in silence is much more frustrating than toxicity - Hell, I find toxic players to be funny 1/2 of the time. Toxic banter takes your mind off the loss.

That quote is why Cam Newton is a loser. You can lose with grace and class. I would rather compliment my enemies on a match well fought than open up an unnecessary can of verbal whoop ass on people who just want to enjoy a game. If you can only have fun by "winning", then perhaps competition isn't the right thing for you.

You can have banter without being toxic. I see that all the time and it's fine and fun.

When you think that getting insulted multiple times by multiple people nonstop after you already know that you messed up, which just makes the problem worse, "takes your mind off the loss" instead of making you think about it more. i.e. Blitzcrank misses hook Vayne: WTF blitz ur so shit, havent landed a single hook this game, uninstall, kys. blitzcrank; sorry im trying. Yasuo: Trying isnt good enough, go kys. blitz misses another hook. yasuo has left the game vayne has left the game

you think this takes your mind off the loss?

Here's the problem with your argument: the concept of 'toxic banter'.

I've seen banter in-game. I've definitely seen toxicity. Maybe there was a time when I would apply both terms to the same situation, but I can't think of one. Banter is, by definition, people talking back and forth; toxicity is pretty much always asshats yelling at people. Now, it's very possible two asshats will yell at each other, but that's still not banter.

I genuinely envy the fact you can enjoy any of that. But it becomes tiresome very quickly when you're trying to improve and that's how people react to it, especially when you play unranked games specifically because you want to be better before you play ranked. You are only speaking for yourself; Riot has to take the whole community into account, and it should be clear by now that enough of the community is driven away by this behavior (if basic human decency wasn't enough) for them to work on stamping it out.
